Just a thought: There's only two ways that smoke could get into the house from the heater/stove. Air blowing down the vent or blockage of the vent. Could something have temporarily blocked the vent from the outside??
What I found was that the vent pipe was not put together properly. The PO had put put some of that foil tape around all the joints, I'm assuming to block smoke that was leaking out. That tape has a paper layer that burnt up and the rubbery adhesive is what stank so terribly. I believe all the smoke came from that tape.
I appreciate all the thoughts. I'll look at whatever you guys suggest. I'm going to call the manufacturer today and see what they say.
