Another annoying story from the old days--"pizza pie" air filter

In about early spring 71 I bought a 69RR. Bare bones, 383, bench seat, 4 speed, "single leg." I had a 63 Chev Impala SS I'd bought, and the private seller had bought this RR for his young son, who had not "been good." Dad wanted to "downsize."

ANYHOW, "some time later" I had bought one of those "pizza pie" air filters. I cannot find a photo, they were a large just slightly domed piece that held a round foam filter all the way across the top, with perf metal, the air went in the top

THE THING IS the STUD is very short!!!

So, I'm driving somewhere, stop at a light, Suddenly it "went" onto the fast idle cam at some point when stopping, maybe downshifted

I kicked the gas a couple times and it dropped back down. Set there and idled for a short time and then...........

Clunkety-bangety-bang--clunkety. WTF

Managed to get out of traffic, open the hood, and THE CARB STUD IS NOWHERE TO BE FOUND

It had gone through a valve, with no evident damage, and imbedded itself in one piston.

Found a friend to get back to the base, tore it down, and replaced 1 piston and rings.
