What car deal did you get back in the day?

I can think of two.
1. In 1972 I saw a 1964 Sport Fury on the used car side of Shortman Dodge. I had just sold a 57 Chevy 2 Dr HT for $800. I stopped to look at it. It was beautiful. White with the red and white interior, buckets, console, PS, PB, AC, 383, Auto. The seats were covered with clear vinyl. I asked how much, and they said $1600. I said I just sold a car and all I had was $800. They dropped it to $1200, and I said that was nice, but I really only had $800. I was a Junior in college at the time. I was getting ready to leave and they said how about $1000. I thanked them profusely and said I really only had $800, and I thanked them for their time. Then they said do you have $800 cash? Then the car was mine. Like a FOOL I sold it after a few years.
2. About 18 years ago, I decided to convert my Barracuda from an automatic to a 4 speed. I checked with Brewer's and it was going to be about $3500. Then I saw a 69 Barracuda 340 4 speed car on Ebay. The guy said it was rough but restorable, and the 340 ran. I bought it for $2700, and it cost me about 500 to drag it home. So $3200 total. I stripped all the 4 speed stuff off of it, and then sold the running 340, 8.75 SureGrip with 3.55s, and Automatic out of my car for $2400. Then I GUTTED the car and listed dozens of parts on Ebay. Everything was listed auction style, and everything sold. I was actually embarrassed at how much some things sold for. When all was said and done, I bought a new flywheel, had the console top re-chromed, had Brewer's rebuild the shifter and chrome plate the shift handle, bought new top and bottom boots and bought a 4 speed rebuild kit, and I wound up with about $500 in my pocket. So I got a more than free 4 speed conversion.
