What car deal did you get back in the day?
Back a few or so decades ago, a dollar went a lot further. We talk of cheap cars bought back in the day, we don't mention how a year salary with a good job was $7-8000. 1970 or so.
1988. Paid $3500 for perfect Tor Red AAR, PO had replaced the col. AT with a 4 speed. Best driving E body I ever had. 3500. Probably overpaid. Drove it often for 5 years , sold it for $10,000. Mark it sold too cheap!
Guy calls me from Mn. I was in Mo. 1989. Wanted to sell me a 70 HemiCuda roller minus the shaker hood for $1500. Someone had wacked off the hemi K frame mounts for a SB. He knew the car before he got it and knew it was original hemi car. No guarantees. Vin tag was found in the trunk when I got there. 1200 mi round trip. Mark it bargain.
Guy calls me from Ok. 1991. Wants to sell me an original AAR Cuda, all there, no brakes but runs. He can't sell it in Muscogee Ok. for $1500. A complete 70 Cuda 318 roller is thrown in for free. 600 mi. Mark it bargain. 4 speed car 's, lime.
I find a 70 V code 440-6 Challenger, 4 speed purple. 1990. You guessed it, $1500. The guys mom called and wanted it GONE> Period. To many tickets. 200 mi. No title. I filed for lost title under the kids name. Mark it bargain.
Bud in Tn had 3 V code Superbird rollers. 1994. Each was missing a fender or wing or nose. My choice $5000, Cheaper if I took all 3. I passed. Hated those big silly looking things!! Mark it my mistake.
Good cars were to be found. It was fun. The list is long.
Too bad I could not to afford to sit on them all. ( really any of them).
My wife lets me share in ownership of her slant 62 Lancer!!!!
