Curly or Shemp

-
Jerome (Curly) had a stroke in the middle of filming an episode. I can't remember which episode, but you see him at the beginning and then halfway through he is gone. He was looking real bad at the beginning too. He went downhill quick from there.

I remember seeing Moses (moe) in a wheelchair when I was a boy. He still had the salad bowl haircut, with gray hair.

I'm glad you posted this, I had to leave & couldn't reply. I think Larry had a stroke later in life also. Not sure how Shemp passed, but Moe did live the longest of the 3 other main Stooges. Larry was from the Philly area.

I'm from Harrisburg and watched them on one of the Philly channels every day after school.

Shemp, Moe and Larry were the original 3. I think they were called Ted Healy's Stooges or something like that. Then Shemp left for his own show as a boxer, Knuckles something or other. Shemp did box. Then enter Curly. Shemp returned after Curly's death. Louis Feinberg (Larry) was a very good violinist and boxed too.

I used to win a fair amount of money betting people they couldn't name all the three stooges.

Without any cash changing hands, the look on most folks face when asked to name five there stooges, is usually priceless.

Actually there were six. Moe, Larry, Curly, Shemp, Joe, Curly Joe.

I've not seen any of the original stuff with Shemp, but I've heard Ted Healy called the fourth stooge. For me, the fourth stooge is Vernon Dent.

Name four thee stooges, blows most minds.

Name five lets out even more smoke.

I'm afraid to ask for six.

Sure. I don't even count Curly Joe and Joe anyway. Joe Besser (Curly Joe), wouldn't allow himself to be eye-poked or even slapped hard. And Joe DeRita wasn't funny.

Curly died in 1952 at age 48 after having several strokes - the first one in 1946 while filming "Half-Wits Holiday," another in 1949 and apparently several more before passing.

Shemp died of a heart attack in 1955 at age 60.

Larry Fine died in 1975 at age 72. He never worked again after having a stroke in 1970.

Moe died in 1975 at age 77.

All passed still fairly young, especially Curley. I'll keep watching them until I pass.

Curly for me. One of his lines I could always identify with was, “I tried to think and nothing happened “.

Coitainy it was Curly....Nyuk Nyuk Nyuk!
I wonder how many times they hurt themselves in making these short films....
Stupid humor and timeless.
Personally, I loved them all, but it's sad how most of them ended up dying and the personal struggles they had.....
I do know that people really thought that Moe was poking him in the eyes (look closely and you'll find that he's actually landing his fingers above Curly's eyes) and they would literally walk up to home and actually poke him in the eyes.

I’ve been looking for the one where Curly takes this huge circular saw ( 12-14”) and cuts a table in half that Moe is standing on. I think he was hanging a picture or something, and didn’t see it coming. If anyone knows which episode it is , I’d love to see it again!

If you're in Youngstown, Ohio, you might get MeTV. If so, they're on every Saturday night from 6-8pm. I've seen the one you're talking about too, & I can't remember the name of the short either. I think it was an ALTA circular saw if I'm not mistaken.

Legalize Shemp!
Emil Sitka was to be the seventh Stooge but when Larry died that was it.
"Hold hands you lovebirds".
Moe, Larry, Curly and Shemp were in one episode together. The boys were on a train looking for Ichabod Slipp and as they were walking through a car there was a sleeping man with a hat over his face. One of the boys lifted the hat and the man's snoring went, "whoop, whoop". It was Curly with his full head of hair.
Curly chased women and Larry loved the ponies. There were times they had to drag Larry to the studio because he was still at the horse track.
Moe finally had to put them on an allowance or they would have died penniless.
We'll get the filthy lucre,
The moolah, the gedus
No slippery guy named Slipp is ever gonna cheat us!

I was going to mention that short with Curly sleeping in the train car. When they lifted his hat, & removed the clothespin on his nose, & he started snoring. Funny stuff. I think that was Curley's last time on film.
