I am trying to improve the ride quality and smoothness of my 73 Dart 318. It feels like something is out of balance and I suspect the power steering pump. It seems smoother when I take the belt off. Has anyone else had experience with a power steering pump that is unbalanced maybe from wear? What did it feel/sound like? Can these be rebuilt?

My other guesses are engine mount rubber, tires out of balance, or something worn in the front suspension. These may be in addition to the P/S pump. I replaced the universal joints and had the driveshaft balanced. I also replaced the transmission mount rubber.

When does it feel out of balance? All times? At a certain rpm? In park or while driving? Vibrations can come from anywhere

Anytime the engine is running above idle. Driving or parked. Worse with higher rpm s

Check the motor mounts

The fan could be a possibility. What should I be looking for? It is the original.

I had a vibration come out of the blue. I was under the hood, revving the engine, etc... I don't recall exactly how I discovered loose rivets and fan blade but so glad I did. I had seen fan blades go into a battery and a hood on other vehicles. A person could be severely injured.

Could old belts be causing be causing a vibration even though they are not cracked or deteriorated? I put NOS Mopar belts on it and then the car sat for about 13 years. Can belts cause a vibration of they are too tight?

I put new belts on it and it helped a lot! The belts were really old. I arranged to have the front suspension checked out on Monday.

TQ bolts maybe.. I would check them .
A vibration is a sign of something, I would pull the belts off and fire it up and see if the vibration is gon, if not, I would be under the car looking at my TQ converter bolts

Since my last post I replaced the engine mount rubber and had the power steering gear and pump rebuilt. Both helped. I adjusted the mixture screws on the carburetor to get the engine to idle smoothly. That helped a lot also.
