273 fans. This is a must read

I noticed you have been responding for quite a few years. It is amazing the amount of misinformation out there...

i agree. When something is posted a number of people automatically believe it...then they pass it on and soon everybody is saying the same thing so "it must be true"!
I have seen cams, intakes or all manner of things recommended by many who have never even used the part.
The only posts that mean anything are those that have "first person" experience.

When I was contemplating my 65 Dart wagon’s engine possibilities, my choices were just 2 (because that’s what I had on hand) - a 65 slant or a 66 273/235. My youngest son (who is in his early 40’s) pleaded with me to not use the slant, even with the triple Weber setup I own. He said my vision of a 1 of none panel wagon deserved a V8, especially since I had a complete 273/235 motor. In the end I will be using the 273 in basically a stock configuration other than a mild performance cam. And yes, it will dressed out like a Charger 273 - even the air cleaner pie pan will say that - thanks @65dartcharger for reproducing them!
Don! I think the 273 was a good choise. At the end you will have a reliable engine and you already had it too!

I agree with Mike. It's not "just" fluff, it's misinformation as well as omitted information due to poor research and ignorance. If you're gonna write something, get it right.

Rusty- have you reread some of your posts? Hahahahahahahah!
Just playing

Well, i must say, i have a 1965 Plymouth Valiant Signet, with the 273- and 4-barrel carb. Has 63000 miles on it now and runs just fine. I don't see many out there, but as a retired codger, i love driving it (power steering, automatic) and get lots of looks. Most people ask about it and expect it to have the slant six, not familiar with the 273.

Hey all
I have two 273's and with the right tweaks they are pretty potent for the street I have been using them
for about 50 years

Street raced my 65 270 273/235 back in early 70's and broke alot of big block hearts My only problem was I made a bunch of power couldn't keep a 904 trans together

Many years ago I did sold it way back then for a song!! Haven't found another yet. However I have found what I believe is a very rare 65. It is a 270 like my old one has the 235 commando but also has A/C p/s and P/B. Pretty rust free floor new floor pans are tacked in. Haven't went and looked at it was wondering if anyone could help me out with how rare this is!

You didn’t say what 270 model this is or whether it was an automatic or 4 speed so let’s assume it is a 2 dr hardtop. According to info I have (thanks Ulf 65dartcharger) there were 2819 270 2 door hardtops shipped. Out of those there were 287 equipped with the automatic and 271 with a 4 speed with the Charger 273/235 (Commando was the Plymouth name). There is no breakdown as to engine for AC, PB. and PS other than the total number for all 270 2 door hardtops. AC was 254; PB - 85; PS - 914. Hope this helps!

If I ever get off my *** and finish my 273.....MPFI and a 73mm turbo....low compression 2bbl slugs? Dinky heads? ...turbos don't care!

It is a hardtop like my old one and yes a automatic. And the numbers you are stating above this thing is almost a Unicorn. Along with the powder blue exterior ( my old one was the turquoise)and blue cloth interior. It's about a hour away from me in Florida. Just wasn't looking for this heavy of a project at this age in my life

Back in 67-68 the lead singer in our band bought a 67 notchback 273 4 speed. White with red seats. That little rascle whooped up on everything out there, 396 Chevelles 427 vetts, Road runners, Mustangs you name it. He would run the cops if they wouldn't give him a ticket. Then Rinks 65 273 4 speed (with that single square exhaust pipe) wouldn’t get out of its own way.

You had a true 1966 D/Dart a while ago? Was it a white, red interior, 273 - 275 hp, 4-speed, radio delete 4.86 gears, Doug's headers, 1966 Dodge Dart GT? Inquiring minds want to know.
Alan - true D/Dart owner.
