Does anyone on this forum own an EV. Be honest!

Thought has certainly crossed my mind lately. I drive 650 miles per week for work.

I'm lucky enough to be able to work from home. Because of that, my fiance and I are contemplating a move up in the hills somewhere. If that happens and they make me regularly come back into the office for work, I'll likely buy a small commuter car, and it may be electric. I've heard great things about a few different models.

My job gave me a Nissan leaf to use ,it barely got 70 miles on a full charge and don’t think about using heat or A/C .now I got a Chevy bolt 1/2 gas 1/2 battery.it goes about 40 miles on battery then switch’s to gas,,,not so bad.

I know that All Electric cars (EVs) get a lot of bad press on this forum, but like it or not, that is the direction we are heading. I also know that they are not as 'green' as some would like us to believe. In fact, some say that building an EV is dirtier than building a traditional car. And most likely, the electricity needed to charge it come from a coal or natural gas plant. Nevertheless, it may only be a matter of time before we won't have a lot of choice. Well, I'm 71, so I may never see that day, but it may be coming. All this being said, there is one EV that has sparked my interest; the new Hyundai IONIQ 5. Nice looking car with a range of 300 miles. I doubt I will buy one, but the idea does interest me. I plan to do a lot of research before even thinking seriously about it.

You are 100% correct . Couldnt have summed it up any better .
Electric will be the future for most cars but I imagine there will still be some gas specialty cars. And yes there will be environmental costs ...some are known already others will be reallized in hind sight.
Biggest driver will be cost . EVs have far fewer parts.... Second is fuel savings ... third is environmental.

Range has already been extended into the hundreds for some EVs but in reallity how many people travel more than 30 miles per day ? 60 ? 120 ?.... its a small percentage . And in 15 years most EVs will have 200+ mile range . EVs are also faster and handle better due to lower center of gravity and availabilty of torque vectoring AWD .
Our muscle cars will increase in value because they offer a viceral experience and nostalgic appearance .

I appreciate what EVs have to offer but my Barracuda is still my daily driver except on bad winter days then I use my 03 Ram . Though With gas prices going up I will be riding my BMW dual sport (65 mpg) most days I imagine.

Don't trust Hyunda/Kia vehicles had nothing but issues with them. I would get an established Ev platform before even considering a ev that has no long term testing.

I have no desire for a full EV. I would consider a plug in hybrid, that could be charged with Arizona solar panels, for the couple times weekly trip to town, sometimes as much as 50 mile round trip, minimum of about 15.
An EV does not appeal, cause trip from one house to the other is 250 miles, through the desert where the nearest charge stations are 100 miles apart. I have seen ONE tesla on hwy40 in six years of trips from one to the other.
A plug in hybrid can at least keep going when the battery quits, if you don't run out of juice, the engine doesn't have to run.
The 500hp 62 savoy, the 650hp opel, and the A12 will NOT be replaced.

I agree ... lots of issues with the electrical systems .

My wife just bought a new SUV. It is gas powered and gets about 40 MPG and it has an electric motor back up. Has about a 400 mile distance potential on a tank of gas. The way I understand it the electric part charges as you drive and if you happen to run out of gas it will keep going on the electric motor?? No need to charge!!

@33IMP You have a 650 hp Opel ?
This I gotta see ! Cadet , Manta or GT ?

To be honest, it's only a 500hp 454 now, but the aluminum headed 540 is in the works, and I have a 250hp plate unit for it. (Please ignore the AWFUL flames, they will soon be gone!)

No, never. It is being hyped by the propaganda masters, but I doubt it will ever make it for people that live outside a city.

Would be interesting to see DIY guys repair their hybrid cars, you may as well throw away your test lights and your current DMMs.
