i did search and do not see many cars with it. was it a formula s thing,or one year only

its rocker moulding and its smooth chrome from from bottom of front fender and then right behind the door it looks like it goes to a cast aluminum piece.

anyone have any info, better pics or even have the complete set up.

68 only I believe. Not formula S related. It was simply optional trim. You are correct about the cast rear section but the front is an approximately 1" wide spear, below that is silver paint.

thanks guys, i'm trying to locate a set to put on my 68. i like they way they look. I also have a few specs of rust coming out. So i figured i could fix that problem and cover up my fix with the moulding.

The ones on my 67 are fluted, each year is different.

i would not doubt it, Everything for older mopars are getting harder and more expensive to find.. its just something to keep my eyes out for, even if i have to buy piece by piece.

Thanks to everyone i know its 68 only now so helps me out

Some occasionally surface on ebay.

I think I have this on my 68 cuda fastback...Im not sure if I like it...lol I'll get some pics tomorrow....

The piece at the rear quarter is cast pot metal. It's hollowed out on the backside too. It would collect a double fist full of crap and cause more rust issues. I sold gills and spears of my 68 long ago.
If the aftermarket doesn't offer wheel well trim specific to "with rocker trim" you will need to buy the "all others" trim and hand fit it to the gills.
Just a bunch of FYI

i have dont have wheel well trim, never will.. I like the look of the gilled rocker moulding. I don't have rust rust. I have a few bubbles comming out on the rockers after being painted for over 4 years. figured i could grind them down, paint over them to seal it and then put the moulding to cover my fix.

I do understand about them collecting crap behind them. It pretty much like how a vinyl top rusted roofs

Correct trim package would include the wheel lip moldings with the rocker trim.
The gills being hollowed out on the backside serve as mulch traps just like the dogleg section of the front fenders. If these areas are flushed from time to time they will rust. The mulch holds moisture and its decay creates high ph.
It would be nice if the gill plates were back filled and mounted with adhesive trim tape. I dont think trim tape will support their weight before or after back fill.

The rocker trim with the "gills" in front of the rear wheels was a '68 option only. I have them on my '68 notch.
are you sure it was only 68? I have a 69 with them on. the driver side is damaged. trying to find one or a pair if necessary. So far no luck.....

They were definitely only 68. I would guess a previous owner liked the look and added them. The cast pieces are easier to find than the spears are. Put a want add up here and one will probably surface

99% sure the "gills n spear" trim are 68 only. I can't say I have ever seen 69 cuda rocker trim? My 69 didn't have it. It is a bare bones "S"
My 67 has the rocker trim ( different than 68 gills)
