My Duster is under the knife....TKX going in

Unfortunately, I don’t think it will be as small as it could be. Posted this in a different thread, but here are the instructions for the Holley crossmember brace.

I’d post just figure 4, but it’s a .pdf and I would have to spend time extracting it.

Based on that picture, I bet the needed surgery could be small, but only if you can brace the crossmember under the trans like Holley is. The thing is, pretty sure they move the motor and trans forward so the SRV deal on the back of the 6.4 intake fits without hacking the firewall. But in the stock location I think the trans mount is inline with the crossmember, removing the option to add a bolted brace below the trans the way Holley does.

Which means a crossmember is going to have to be built above the trans much like the T56. I am sure it will be less surgery, but probably not as much as it seems.

Huh. Yeah I still don't like getting rid of the upper part of the crossmember. Obviously it looks like they did a lot of work to the lower brace to make sure it can support everything it needs to, but for a torsion bar car that crossmember is pretty important.

I guess I shouldn't be too surprised, I know I looked into a TKO briefly when I was considering the T56 swap. I came to the conclusion that it was going to take enough cutting that I might as well just go a little further and install the T56. Plus the ToddRon crossmember for the T56 keeps the upper hoop.

The kit comes with a crossmember. Still, it's a lot of cutting to be done. The technician told me today that "it pained him" to cut into the tunnel. He's a bit of a Mopar purist. I'm not.

Pained him? Wow. I mean, I'm not for hacking stuff up just to do it. But if someone is really worried about it later they make reproduction crossmembers and floors. Reversing something like that is still less work than the rust repair that a lot of these cars require. I dunno about the specifics of your car, but in my case I wasn't too worried about a '74 /6 Duster.

Looking forward to seeing the finished product!
