does anyone else have this fetish?

I was crawling around under a medical building as part of an hvac remodel about 8 years ago. Way down deep in the bowels I came across some copper water lines running in clevis hangers suspended from the floor joists. The original installing plumber had stuffed folded over newspapers between the copper lines and the hangers, I reckon as some kind of cushion or dielectric. Pretty jackleg. I pulled the papers out and installed some legit isolation in between. The papers were sports pages from the 70s, the lead story being Thurman Munson dying in a plane crash. And the backpages of the sports section were all the movie theater listings. Really cool reading and looking the theater addresses up to see their current occupants (most were gone, torn down, or otherwise occupied by non theater businesses)

yep, me too - I always read through the packaging

For twenty years (1980-2000) I lived in and renovated a house built in 1821 in Southwest Virginia. When we got to the kitchen there were 5 layers of old style sheet linoleum, with news papers between the layers to keep them from sticking together. I tore it up layer by layer reading and saving what I could. I was doing this at about the time all that mess was going on with the Contras in Nicaragua. The most shocking article between the flooring was from the 1930s about the US sending in the Marines to protect the interests of the Dole Corporation, in ... Nicaragua. What goes around comes around...
My old dad was one of those Marines. I guess it as sorta like the Granada deal a few decades ago..

At work I would get things shipped from Japan wrapped in old newspapers, I couldn't read the writing but it was fun just looking at the ads and trying to figure out what they were for.
