I bought a part from a member here, and paid what I thought was a fair price. I got the part and its not what was advertised and it is rusted to the point of not being a useable part for me. I got it over a month ago and sent a message to the seller about the part not being what is was supposed the be and of the rust condition. He told me he would make it right. I didn't hear anything for a month so I messaged him. He said he had more than one of these so I asked about the condition of the other parts and he said he would send pics of the other one, that was a week ago and I don't have pics. I paid about twice what I would have if this was a usable because of the way its was represented in the ad. I paid PayPal friends and family to save him the fees so I probably have nothing there to file a claim. I don't know if I waited long enough to name names or not. I see he has more parts he is selling and I don't want someone else to get screwed out of their money. I lost 500.00 out of my car budget with this guy. I have bought a lot of parts here for my car and all have been really good transactions. Buyer beware.

Buyer beware of who?..
I'm going to write two people on a piece of paper... When you name who it is I'm going to post a screenshot of the names I wrote down...

In these trying times a week might "not be much." I'm 73, and I could die in the next minute, or get sick and be trucked off to the hospital. I ain't defending whoever this is, jus sayin............................

Did you see photos of THE part you ordered?
Did you ask for additional photos of the worst areas?
Did you ask clarifying questions as to condition?

If you did and you still bought the part then it is on you.

UNLESS...

The seller did not send you the part that was photographed.

Then maybe it was an honest mistake and the seller should make it right ASAP.

OR the seller is a scumbag did it on purpose and should be outted.

Either way. Clearly stating the facts with screen shots of photos etc. And abstaining from name calling will help us all in the long run.

$500 bucks is lot to spend on something sight unseen... did you really not know what you were getting?

Never pay with PayPal friends and family! Red flag right there.

Name them by calling them with a @ attached in front of their user ID. Let them have a chance to say their side of the deal. Always two sides of the story.

Good luck!

Well IF its rusted beyond use and paid $500 then I would say "misrepresented ". If you have been in contact MORE THAN ONCE over a 1 week period and still continuing to sell then I would send 1 more pm and 1 more day. Send a mod a pm and maybe flag the person in their other ads?
That being said there is 2 sides to the story. Also can you post pics of $500 parts.

I paid PayPal friends and family

well theres your biggest mistake. has to be a damn good friend for me to pay friends and family. i usually cover the fee for my own protection.. i can not believe people have not learned by now. DO NOT send money via paypal using friend and family. you are only screwing yourself.

i'd be posting his name all over the place. thread is about useless without their name.

That sucks. I have to assume that you were purchasing some type of sheet metal part. I think its going to be difficult to find something 50 plus years old that is in pristine condition. Maybe to save the part you can have it fixed? Just saying. And ya if the guy doesn't make it right you should post a warning about him. Good luck.

What should you do?
At least post a pic of this $500 part.
We will be able to see what we are talking about, right now its a mystery.
I understand if your trying to rectify the situation and dont want to expose the member.
But tough to weigh in, if we dont see what you see.

The buyer should pay the fees to protect yourself. I’m pretty lenient buying and selling here on FABO. Outside of this place no quarter asked, none given. I expect to be screwed and try to cover all my bases.

66signet, sorry to here this , I under stand you want to deal with this guy in private first, but as a seller myself after a couple weeks it's obvious he doesn't want to make it right. Communication is the key to setteling up the matter. If he doesn't want to talk and make things right with you , then you have to do what you feel is right to protect yourself and others here. This , just throwing out and not naming names makes the good stand up sellers look questionable!

500 bucks and no protection because of F&F.

HELL NO.

Post a pic(s) of the part in the listing and also a pic of the rust that makes it unusable.

Was that shown in the listing, or was it hidden?

This gives the Friends and Family deal a bad name. I am all for Friends and Family on FABO or other F_BO sights along with Moparts. You have the ability to see their past posts and get to know the members and find out who to trust. I would never hesitate to do F&F with Roy Riviera, Rat Rod Al, Rusty, MoparMarks, Halifax, .... However, someone with few posts would be a no-go.
The great thing about doing F&F on sites like this is that you can hold the sellers feet to the fire by calling them out in public if they try to get shady. That is the sole reason I am okay, after due diligence on my part, with it.
Calling them out is your "Buyer's Protection". Of course, try to resolve it but if it doesn't work out in the PM's then call'em out!

I don't want someone else to get screwed out of their money
My choices are to not buy from anyone or not but from that guy. Help us out and help yourself out. If you name the guy the responses are either going to be he is a stellar seller and something must have happened he will make it right or you should have avoided that guy sorry you lost a lot of money.

I bought some parts from a seller here too, I got busy and didn’t open the package up right away, when I did one of the things I bought is rusted, broken mounting studs and can’t use it, even missing a bracket that was supposed to be with it that you need to mount it to the car. The other item is OK that came but the other is not usable. It’s been about a month, meant to message the seller since he seems nice enough, but been busy, father in law passed away so been busy with all that too and forgot about it.

I have since bought a replacement from Rat Rod Al to use, should be here soon!
