Thinking of replacing the stock 516 heads on my 65 donor 383 engine that will be going in the 67 Dart. Any opinions? Thinking of keeping the bottom end stock.

You sure can’t beat the price in today’s market. Are there better, racier heads??? Heck ya, but I would never spend a cent on stock heads for a build like you are doing. Upgraded heads with some room to grow.

Yeah, unless I read it wrong, edelbrock heads are running close to $1000 each!

Very hard to compete with Stealths for the price........for the mild hot rod type build.

Depending on what the machine shop costs are like in your area, and the condition of the OP’s 516’s....... it’s pretty easy to spend over $1k refurbishing the stock heads.

Real world flow numbers for an ootb Stealth are about 260/176@.500 lift.

I haven't checked lately, but the Promaxx were about equally priced and the E-streets just a tad more than both at last I checked

Any AL is better than 50 year old cast for improvements. Do your homework and check your **** when you get it.

I just checked the Promaxx site.
For the BB Mopar assembled head, they only show it available as either bare or assembled with HR springs.

The flow data “tab” wasn’t working either.

Huh.
Add that to the growing list of stuff that doesn’t seem to work on my phone anymore.

Jegs shows them to ship in roughly two weeks "pending manufacturer availability". I'd call Promaxx and ask if they have castings in stock. I'd be surprised if they do..
440 Source has TF 240 heads in stock, they are more expensive but a much better head. I ordered 2 and they we delivered in 2 days.

Got the 383 pulled out of the 65 Newport today. Fun time but darn cold here in the Florida Panhandle! Will see what else it needs besides new heads. The 67 Darts new heartbeat!

Whatcha putting those on Edorion?

You will need to notch the cylinder bores if you use any of the aftermarket heads on a 383.
The Trick flow, Edelbrock, Speed master and 440 source heads do not need notching on the 383.

Are the Stealth heads good to go out of the box, or do they usually need some porting/smoothing? From what I understand, TF heads don't usually need anything straight from the box, but what about the Stealths?

440 Source states that the Stealths are straight up bolt-on.

It’s pretty rare that a new head assembly, as built by the manufacturer(as opposed to being assembled with unknown parts from an on-line retailer) would have “problems” serious enough to cause a potential failure.

That’s not to say that things are always roses and unicorns though.

Here is a valve out of a Stealth head with maybe a hundred or so miles on it.
This wasn’t causing a problem...... and maybe never would have.
But that’s not the same thing as saying it’s “right”.

The shiny line is the point of contact with the seat.

Happy with mine. Put them on a 440 street build. I replaced springs,, keepers, locks. I don't know about out of the box, but cnc ported are nice. My spec sheet after work.
