I own a 69 Barracuda 318 4spd numbers matching car. I was lucky enough to find the broadcast sheet for the car. There is no fender tag on the car. The dash vin doesn't match the radiator support, engine, transmission or quarter panel. All of those match the broadcast sheet, The car is registered and insured here in NYS.
Is there anyone who reproduces these vin tags?

First.....

It is not 'numbers matching' if it has the wrong VIN.

Does the title / transferable registration match the dash VIN or the body?

NY state has severe penalties for VIN tampering in addition to the Federal laws.

If you bought the car this way, you can demand your money back from the seller.

You can also report him to the state police for VIN fraud.

The registration matches the dash, The car came from west virginia where it was last on the road in 2004. The car is registered and on the road here in NY

YIKES that's definitely no bueno !

Try to get your money back.

If that fails, sue the bastard.

One way or the other, report it to your state police right away so they can document the evidence, this will help your lawsuit if he does not refund all your money and associated costs.

If NY requires vehicle insurance and the insurance documents are for the dash VIN and not the car, insurance fraud also comes into play here.

You have a rolling crime scene, it is best for you to report it right away. Let your state police look over all the evidence.

If there is any delay, the defense and the judge can ask you why you waited once aware of the crime.

Did you buy it from the guy in Wv?
Is he still in the same location? if so you may have recourse.
If not, zip it, drive that **** for life and let the next guy worry over it.
This is not legal advise:lol:

Yep, you may end up with no car if you proceed. If it's not just a simple character line misstamp on the VIN, sounds like a stolen car with a new dash and matching registration.

No no no... the number stamped on the body is SUPPOSED to match the broadcast sheet, NOT the VIN. The car is perfectly OK. Don't panic. You're good.

Up through the 1968 model year, the SON on the broadcast sheet will match the body.

But he said;

I own a 69 Barracuda
- so the body number should match the dash VIN.

How about some pictures of the info you have?

Dash vin, build sheet , rear trunk rail and rad support numbers. There's enough knowledgeable members on here to help figure the provenance of this car out.

What does the title match ?
What if he likes his car and wants to keep it?

Then he could lose it anyway.

The time to report a crime is right away.

It would be idiotic to just become another crime supporter.

And since the insurance fraud issue comes into play, if he has the car insured and it gets damaged through no fault of his own, his claim can be denied since the policy 'matches' the dash only, not the body.

Oh, OK... I have a 67, and I didn't realize it changed. Thanks for the correction.

That sucks and is so wrong……:wtf: Is wrong with people making a living selling bogus vehicles?

I’m fairly positive the gentleman I got the car from was unaware of this issue. As the car was not on the road or registered in his name

OR, maybe that was a state issued VIN, the state goofed by not looking at the body stamps and it is correct for W.Va? I don't see a big fraud issue with a 318 Barracuda. How different would a 225 904 car be?

Devil's advocate, like my screen name.

.....or maybe that’s why he didn’t register it?
