I've been on both sides, never was a big fan of unions, can't say the the union ever did anything for me, always seemed like they were neutered anyway. I prefer non union simply because it seems a lot less convoluted bullshit. I have always believed that a person should be paid according to their work ethic first, and years on the job second. Not many employers that I have known realize that rewarding someone simply because they have been around for however long, even if that person is a slackass, just pisses off the others who are hard workers, especially if the others have to work harder/longer because of the slackers lack of effort. I consider that to be rewarding incompetence.
I worked 46 year and only had a union and that was in my last job. I worked one day and had to pay union dues because of the date of the month.
The last contract before I retired we got .25 cents an hour raise. Didn't know what to do with all that extra money. And like everyone says they are only good at two things. Protecting the lazy and dishonest people and collecting their dues.
I helped keep a union out of one place I worked and we made out better without them..
We kept them out by 1 vote so it was very close.
