What are the pros and cons of changing the original rubber with polyurethane inserts? The original factory rubber appears OK. Does it wear out after 50 years? These engine mounts have the steel cylinder surrounding the rubber. The original rubber is removed with a propane torch and the new polyurethane inserts slide in. This is a stock 318. Not a muscle car. Thanks.

Poly= less movement but more vibration transmitted to the body. I would just by factory replacements from Rock Auto.

Pro& con, Rubber absorbs vibration better, poly, much firmer you feel the vibrations.
Usually after 50 years rubber gets old and saggy ( just like people) The problem is new mounts are very soft and may not last as long depending on use. Always good to change the transmission mount too when changing engine mounts.
If you feel the mounts are good,I'd leave 'um.
