Thinking of swapping out my 590 camshaft and getting something more in the 2800 to 6500 Rpm range maybe something with less duration and try not to lose a lot of the lift staying mechanical also getting rid of the Victor 340 and going for an air gap door plane
My thoughts are this way I will be in the correct power band on the street what’s your thoughts
This is a 340 30 over stock stroke can’t remember the compression ratio I believe mid to high 12 B1 cylinder heads ported by hand they do appear to be opened up pretty good though not sure of the flow numbers crane 1.5 rockers 750 Holley 727 reverse manual valve body just had the torque converter tightened up from 4500to 3300 391 gear 26 inch tire duster
 
Maybe regrind the cam ? And or add Rhoads lifters or different cam with Rhoads ?
 
If you've got all that cylinder head I don't know why you'd choke it down.
 
I understand where you're going. But I will say your current setup sounds pretty nasty. I'm curious what's your current shift point RPM wise.
 
If you have the coin, a solid roller grind can give you the lift you need with a streetable duration now that you've lowered your stall speed.

If i find a shelf grind suitable i'll post it.
 
I am shifting at 7000 RPMs and the car is still pulling running on race gas 50-50 mix with 93 The car just does not seem that fast on the street it is set up more for the track I figure getting a different cam in intake bringing the RPM range lower will be a faster streetcar
 
However I did just get the converter redone a newer 750 carb and advanced the cam 4° I’ve not driven it since
 
I would call Hughes engines and ask what they have for available cams. If possible, coin wise, a switch up to a 1.6 rocker would keep the lift up high. On a street car, the lift isn’t so super important, though I totally get the want of using all the lift you can get with a well done head. It’s something I say to do a lot. It’s it the end of the world if you don’t and leave lift on the table.

Also see if you can get a Cometic gasket to drop the compression ratio. Yes I know you’ll loose the quench. But that is also not a huge thing when backing it down for the street. It’s great if you have it or can get it but at your current ratio, you’ll need to loose at least one full point of compression to use pump 93. Even more so with a smaller cam trapping more air.

IMO, you can still get an effective street engine out of this mill configuration.
 
I did think about going with a thicker head gasket but how much would that even drop my compression
And then on another hand not sure how much I want to put into this I am debating switching over to a 392 next winter and maybe selling the 340 and the 727
 
How much the ratio drops from a thicker head gasket is your homework to do which a compression ratio calculator, like at the Wallace racing site is a huge help.
Cometic gaskets are pricey but get the job done. There excellent gaskets made to your spec. .060 thick? .022 thick? .100 thick? Just tell them, they make them.

If your on the fence about putting money into it due to the engine swap plan, I say skip it all and focus on the swap plan. Save money!
