When you pay $1200 for an AAR hood, you expect more from Stinger Fiberglass

I'm considering a 69 Dart bolt on 6 pack hood, not many outfits making those. I had great luck with my bolt on GTS hood 11 years ago from AAR. Still have the box with HUGE foam pieces at each corner. I'm a little concerned about shipping now, especially since I live in Canada. I'm glad @Seandavid55 had a good experience recently.

Do you think this thread may had something to do with your experience?

I have no idea. Nor do i have a dog in this fight. I just wanted people to know that my experience was different. I was very hesitant to order from them due to this thread. But with a lack of options, I went forward with the order.

Now that I've seen two of their hoods and associated packaging, I think the OPs damage was due to rough handling. If those boxes are handled let's say outside of a normal fashion, I could see staples pulling out of the corner pieces. Then those sharp corner of the hood will take a beating.

I'd order from them again, but I'd surely inspect everything.

A) if you paid by Credit card, Do a charge back, send them a link to this forum and your email conversations with Stinger to help your case. Let the CC company fight for you!

B) make a video and incorporate your orig pics when you opened the package and discuss the whole thing, put Stinger in the title and post on youtube, that will help get the word out to more people!

I do vintage VW parts for a living, we do get things that get damaged, but we ALWAYS take care of the customer first, then we deal with the shipper since it is NOT the customers fault, it's between us and the shipper, and if it was our fault we find ways to make sure the damage doesn't happen again, and change how we ship. We used to ship VW Ghia windshields in a crate to protect them, but a good 50% would still get broken by UPS (I only use fedex now) since UPS suggested we ship in a crate, we came up with a solution of a custom box and large foam block and ship all over the country now (with fedex) and now rarely will one get damaged, they have to try extra hard!

Yes, Stinger Fiberglass is the company. I bought an AAR style hood for my E body from them, but it also looks like AAR Quality Fiberglass is under the Stinger name.
FWIW, I'm 98% sure AAR made the fe ders Rick Ehrenberg used and was unimpressed with on his Valiant maybe...15 years .

Well I pulled the trigger on a 69 Dart six pack hood this week, I'm told it is about 4 weeks out. Once it arrives I will give a thorough inspection and report back to FABO. Hoping to have a great experience report.

As a second point, prices went up on their products in the last month, everything is getting so expensive.

As boomers retire, it will become more of an employee's market, driving prices up.

There is no such thing as a free lunch.

I know about prices going up, I paid 1200 last month for a roll cage that was 445 in January

There are many reasons for increased cost on everything lately, a lot of it can be attributed to very socialist governments in our countries right now. I don't however wish to muddy this thread with politics.

Atleast you know the truth, that's all that counts

I don't think that the social policies of any government will have nearly the size of an impact as mass retirement, and not enough skilled labor to replace lost workers.

When Billybob and Cleetus and Billybob jr. and his cousin Daryl are competing for the same job, the employer sets the price of wages here at ACME Anvils and Bird Seed. ACME can sell cheaply.

When the only guy looking for a job is Cletus, and ACME Anvils and Birdseed is competing with ACME Rockets and Rollerskates, and ACME Catapults and Paint, they all get into a bidding war, necessitating a rise in prices all the way around because the losers have to pay overtime, while the winner has to pay for another employee.

I sincerely hope you have a great experience. I’ve seen other members here have very pleasant outcomes. The purpose of this thread wasn’t to bash the company and put them out of business, it was simply documenting my experience as it unfolded and I really did hope for a better outcome.

Regarding the speculation as to why things are expensive, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE keep politics out of this thread, because I don’t have access to N&P, nor do I wish to. I’d hate to see my thread disappear off to somewhere I can no longer participate.

Agreed, I wish to post a successful outcome. My last AAR hood was flawless. I likely should not have mentioned the price increase at all. I also don't want this thread to fall into the rabbit hole of politics. My only comments will be about result of my purchase.

I sold my shop in 2000, at that point I had sold probably 300 hoods and bumpers, if there were two out of the lot that didn’t need work I’d be surprised. It was easier to fix them than waste time on the phone trying to get paid for repairing them. The same thing with name brand hoodscoops.

It took the second HVAC guy to come out and find the loose ground wire in about 5 seconds!
It was hot by that third day here in S E TEXAS 105 (in the shade).
Kids!!

Is the hood made in China?

I'm looking for an answer from someone who knows where the hood was made.
This thread is about AAR/Stinger Fiberglass, a quick Google search would show you it is manufactured in Florida, which is in the USA.

The company is in Florida, or their MANUFACTURING is in Florida? If they outsourced to China, they would, sadly, be neither the first nor the last to do so. :BangHead:
