Are ratrods stupid or is it just their owners?

If he did away with the s10 front and better tail light job it's alright for a beater truck. Seen s lot stupider creations.

Could be someones 1st attempt. I would hate to be judged by some of my 1st attempts at whatever.

I hate to say it, but I've seen worse.
That thing is a marvel of engineering and safety compared to some that I've seen driving on the street.
Scary doesn't even come close to describing them....

I see a lot of ratrod builders as : some soul that was almost born with some sort of artistic ability.. I said ALMOST!!! And that artistic stuff is trying somehow to emerge from that body.....then throw in a healthy dose of "fuckedupiness" and bad eyesite!!/ :poke::rofl::popcorn::realcrazy::BangHead:

I would rather go to a ratrod car show than a judged trailer queen waxer show any time. . Some of those ratrods are a work of rolling art. Heres a couple more from bike nite last night.

Ratrodding is a culture in its self. Mostly family oriented. These guys actually drive their cars unlike, I hate say a good majority of the hobby that drive to the parking lot and pop the hood. When I say they drive their cars, I mean they drive their cars. You will usually see them caravan to an event with several trucks pulling empty trailers. Yes, they do have breakdowns. However if someone breaks every stops to help out. The trailer is the last resort.

I’ve seen that most of the enthusiast are in their mid 20s through the mid 40s. Given the state of the car hobby it’s refreshing to see the younger folks participate in the car scene no matter what they drive.

I’ve run with few of them and can say they are a good bunch so before you critique them in a negative way may hang with them. Actually a fun group.

I don't think it's a dislike of ratrods as much as it is a complete aversion to that pos in the OP. I've seen some ratrods that were very well done, and very interesting. I've also seen some, like the one in the OP, that had no appreciable rhyme, rhythm, or identity to them, just a mess of crap stuck together. I agree that it's good to see younger people getting involved in their own way, likely in part because of the prohibitive costs of buying or restoring the stuff we grew up on and still enjoy.
I also agree that too many people spend too much time sitting in lawn chairs, dust cloths at the ready instead of in the seat enjoying the ride. I have never owned a trailer, and I drive all my cars, even in rain or on gravel roads, they are cars, not ornaments.

i don't know...a rat rod to me would be a hotrod well put together but still needing
some cosmetics. Think model A, deuce roadster, 55 chev??
Good engine, good brakes maybe a couple of correct fenders showing bodywork and sitting in
primer like the guys that started it all would have built back in the day.
Today we see builds that use anything inappropriate in the automotive sense with a determined effort
to look terrible and i think it degrades the car hobby...sorry.

Scab cab. Not a rat rod imho.
This is my first attempt. Everybody loves it. I daily drive it whenever i can. Theres more than meets the eye with most of the rat rods, theme built, or to pay tribute to a person place or thing. No effort went into bodywork or paint,as it was too rough to “Restore”.
Its fun and people enjoy it,thats why i built it.

Sorry TJ, a little off topic.......I just noticed your tag line. LOL...I found out that it's cheaper to BUY your dream.

My buddy Blake builds them for a living. He started with the rat rod format and morphed to High end with a patina body.
