Good morning,

Well after much deliberation on narrowing up a second 8.75 for use with my new wheels and tires, I have decided to swap over to a Dana 60.

My friend owns a wrecking yard and is a Ford guy, there are piles of older 3/4ton trucks and large vans there, many with Dana 60's under them. I am hoping to find one with 3.73 gears and the Trac Lok limited slip in it.

Is there anything in particular I should be looking for, or avoiding? I plan to use B body brakes and axles from Dr. Diff. Is it correct the factory Trac Lok's are only good for about 400HP?

Thanks for the help FABO.

MAny of the 3/4 ton dana 60's have different axle ends, bearings and brakes. But if you plan to narrow it, that shouldn't be an issue.

AS far as finding a limited slip, look for special edition trucks, higher than baseline or ones with an upgraded cover.

I am aware Ford did a good job with identifying their parts with stampings, showing gear ratios, and stamped with LS or L indicating limited slip. I am not sure what you mean by upgraded cover? I will be changing out housing ends to Mopar to use my brakes and such. Was curious if there are certain years were better than others?

Give the Torino (Big Ford) bearing ends a look. If you are using a Ford Dana I don’t see why you should be married to Mopar brakes unless you already have them.
You will need to give you fuel tank consideration.
Upgrade the cover with an LPW girdle cover.

I have Mopar brakes ready so that is the drive for Mopar housing ends. Can you elaborate on fuel tank considerations? Do you mean the rear cover of the diff is far enough rearward that it will interfere with the tank?

The dana 60 can, under various circumstances hit the stock tank. My tank had to be cut and re-welded to clear the dana 60. But my car doesn't sit like a jacked up 4x4 and the rear end is moved back 1.5" for tire clearance. Just know it can be an issue.

Thanks, I really appreciate the forewarning. My car also sits very low, pretty much stock ride height.

I have my old tank that was setup for the dana 60. It's a 500$ tank.DM me if interested.

I have zero issues with clearance between my Dana 60 and the tank. Of course, it is located in the stock location on the springs.
