New heads on the way for my Dart, few changes

Yeah when do we get to see these bad boys?
 
Heard from Rod they are still at BES, only waiting on valve jobs now.( the sets that are there)

After that, they get pushrod holes, valve job blending done, and springs set up by Vic.
His hope is to have them to me by the end of next month( April)
As long as i have them by then, i will be fine regards my racing plans. Getting everything else lined up so that the heads are a one day swap and car is done.
There is a member on here who has a set that he should be getting in the next week or so from a previous batch. They only need springs set up at this point.

Really interested to see what he picks up from them. He’s going 1 7/8th? I’ll be running 1 7/8th hedmans, 13.3 compression and a tram but I’ll likely be 3250. Hoping it will run close to the amc at a heavier weight. He’s about 2900 right ?

That Duster on drag week was almost 3200.
4.10 gear, 727, pump gas, TTI header,1 7/8) victor intake not ported, and the car was only 60 footing in the high 1.40’s from what i understand.
Still went over 132 mph, thats enough mph to dip into the 9’s if he gets it to leave.
I have heard he is having a super victor fully done by Vic. That should most definitely pick the car up, unsure on if he is getting the convertor better dialed in or not

Yup, sounds like his converter was seriously tight and could easily pick up a tenth or two with that alone. I know everyone is skeptical about how well the stock style head can really run but from what I’ve seen track wise these heads are really really good
 
It’s not that I’m skeptical, it’s just that there is really no one out there “Producing” a head like this OOTB with the ability to run in the 9’s or advertising that can can port a head to this level on the same platform cylinder head.

I’ve only seen 3 people claim numbers better than 300 cfm on a Edelbrock head. Hughes engines is one and there head has been reviewed here. The “Did I miss on this combo” thread worth the read.

When B3422W5 kept hammering away that everyone should just get these heads (the ones he is getting) in a fashion as if they are currently available as easy as getting a candy bar at the check out, ii found it hard to believe it was possible to get such a head that easy.

While Rod is on the job doing what he can to get this out. This is not exactly a on the shelf head for everyone to purchase today and have by the weeks end.

The last viable head of this fashion that was capable of being ported to this level was the W5 IF! the head was properly cast. Also as the only head capable of this level when it was new, there was no one else out these making an aluminum head except Brodix in which no one here has seen that particular head perform to expectations according to the flow numbers presented by Brodix.

Currently, the only other heads I have seen capable, would be the upper W series heads and the Edelbrock Victor. But now we are leaving the stock style replacement head arena. And the jist of the thread.

I myself look forward to seeing this all. B3422W5 has been at this for a while now and this should be a good thread. We have a couple of part time and full time active drag racers. When ever they post up changes, especially like this, a big change, it gets exciting for everyone.

I dont know if i ever said this head would be ready “ next week” type thing.
Its a limited production type thing, and was always going to be. Anybody seriously wanting a set should be able to get a set if they are patient. This isnt an assembly line type deal, each head has a narrow pipe its coming down the production line from..lol.
Not sure exactly how many sets of cores Rod has, but i do know he has more than the sets currently in the works that are already spoken for.
The fact is, at 2600 dollars still needing a spring package, its unlikely its ever going to be something the average Joe blow would cough up that much cash for. We have a finite target audience in the smallblock Mopar world.
With the advent of G3 stuff, it makes LA stuff less viable as time goes on, to some. The rest of us become even older dinosaurs
Based on the results i have seen with this head, i think i can say with confidence its indeed a 9 sec head. A typical 3000 pound bracket car with compression and a well specced roller will do that i think easily.
The only reason i am going with these heads is my knowledge that the guy who designed them by himself is an ultra sharp guy who has proven his chops to me time and again.

This will be an interesting comparison regards W5 heads.
Years ago, i had an eddie headed stroker with an extremely similar cam/ compression to what i currently have right now, it ran very similar to what i have now runs.
One winter, i took the eddie top end off( moderately ported eddies), excellerator and TTI step headers off the flattop 416 and sold all of it.
Ryan ported me a set of W5’s( first set he ever did) bought a massaged Victor W2 Brett had used on his W5’s, and bought TTI W5 headers.
I put this top end on my shortblock…Went 10.38 at 128-129 ish( don't remember now) right off the trailer. My cars are never light, because none have fiberglass, all have a street/ strip mission, and all have my 320+ pound butt behind the wheel.
That combo lived until mid August that season, when i broke the Eagle cast stroker crank
I figure if i can get within a tenth tenth and a half of that, with smaller headers, not as good a carb as i had then, and a bit less lift… the new heads will exceed my goals.
I think and hope they will. We will see.
They aren't as big, thats for sure.

You never said they were readily a available like a off the shelf head but you did champion them in such a fashion from my point of view, which isn’t a bad thing but they are not, as you stated, a high production head modification readily available like a off the shelf head is, or can be produced in such a major.

I certainly DO NOT want to put words into your mouth or create anything less than what I have seen is an excellent and honest reputation of yourself.

As mentioned before, it’s a damn shame the MP W5 head program went the way it did. As far as I’m concerned, Chrysler/MP got screwed big time and hard as hell from the crap work done for them. It was wrong all day long. On top of that, it all happened before the internet was anything but a new born baby and the corrections to the head never really became known to the public. Confidence in Chrysler/MP’s W5 head fell through the toilet, never mind being flushed down the toilet. IMO, the bad wrap was never over come. A good casting would prove the design and capabilities was more than adequate. IMO, it was a bit expensive though.

The whole W5 program should have been saved and tweaked in the heads ports and intake manifold area.

yep, the W5 head was a nice weapon. If the casting quality could have been improved, you had a home run, no doubt.
Unfortunately, that didn't happen, and Indy stepped in with a solution that performs at that level right around that same time frame. Too bad TTI doesnt make that header any more. It fit better in my Duster than the 1 5/8 to 1 3/4 step did
There was talk for a while of the core boxes for the W5 heads being sold and the heads perhaps coming back to life…but it never got off the ground
 
Oh! And yes! The cost is worth the return but not exactly a mere bag of shells in expense. Everyone wants to go fast but not many are willing to drop the coin on such parts for a nice power house engine build.

Even a nicely set of street ported heads, something like a CNC ProMaxx head or a set of Trick Flows is an expense many balk at.

There is nothing like a good flowing intake and exhaust track to let the engine breath easier and perform better with less effort to get better power returns. A lot of people seem to miss this. They also do not seem to learn the lessons presented here, or the ones from the factory. An excellent example of a great head making excellent HP with a baby sized cam and 87 pump gas is the Gen 3 HEMI.

There is a basic blue print of what you can do to your LA/Magnum right there. While it’ll never perform the same, it’ll perform very well none the less.

I’ve said it for years, get the best head on top of your mill that you can afford. We all ready have excellent intakes and the various exhaust options out there, are also really really good. IMO, your just left with a choice of a cam and head to use.

With any luck, good chance I could have my heads by end of next week.
Good timing, because the guy who bought my old heads called this AM wondering when he could get them.
Love it when a plan comes together.

Just Kidding. It´s of great interest what you will find out, if these heads will make good power (more than a proven ported EDE Head or TF190) with the stock architecture then it´s a big + for all of us. Thanks in advance for sharing this story!

the trickflow heads have already been on the same motor as these heads at the same shop/ dyno and made significantly less power. In fact, a set of air wolf heads were compared as well, the trick flows came in last.
To make sure I am clear, these three type heads were swapped onto an existing dyno mule stroker shortblock on three separate occasions at an extremely reputable shop.
So I already know what the results were, hence, made the buying decision that I did. I am frankly glad I didn’t buy the trickflow heads, I was second in line to get a pair.
In addition, I have seen these new heads actually go down drag strips ( even more important to me)
This all said, unfortunately, what I am doing with them won’t come close to fully utilizing them….but I have the option should I decide down the road to step things up.
I should also say, any of these production style heads can make good power, and do. None are dogs at all. Just some are better than others

I will say this( which is probably too much..lol) between 45-50 horse from worst to first.
640 ish lift 263@50 roller 11.5 shortblock used on all three heads.
In fact that motor( with Bloomer heads) was retired from dyno duty and bought complete by the guy with the AMC who went down the track with it and had the video of it on Facebook.
Went 6.08@112 and change with 1 5/8 headers on it. Car weight with driver +- 2930

Appreciate the info, good stuff. I look at it like anything else as in cost vs performance, edelbrocks are now around $1,900 a pair and need work to beat a trickflow. The only other offering in this range is the Bloomer head which looks to be around $800 more when complete so as long as the trickflows don't skyrocket in price they are hard to beat for the value. The main reason I like the trickflow is the the other benefits that they have out of the box including the quality of parts and the improved rocker location. As for me if I was really out to make big power n/a I would be hunting up a w2/w5 style head and not looking back. There is a head being made right now that hopefully will be ready in the next year or so that I am very interested in but the problem is its hard to spend a bunch of money to make power n/a when I have a power adder.

admitting my mistake didnt have anything to do with you. Rod contacted me and pointed out I had misunderstood what he said to me a while back. I told him I would fix my error on here. Either he or somebody reading this saw my comment and said something to him. Didn’t ask him, doesn’t matter. Getting it right is the thing. I was wrong..and said so.
Call me imperfect..very imperfect..lol
 
Well, don’t have to be secretive what Vic’s new heads made on BES’s dyno.
657 horsepower and 593 torque .
11.6 compression, 263@50 roller.
Wander what it would make with more squeeze and camshaft.
