360 Magnum vs 340 mild street build - my experience

Yeah, the displacement seems to prevail. Back in the day I did a series of street races in my 64 Polara 500 with a 361 big block against a fellow club member in his factory 360 Duster. I had done the “cam kit and headers” (484 Purple shaft cam, Sig Ergson anti-pump up lifters, and Headman headers), ACCEL dual point distributor, and an aluminum DP4B intake with a 1969 AVS. I had a 4 speed tranny with a street/strip heavy duty disc and pressure plate. He had the factory 3-speed setup. We both had freeway gears (I hadn’t saved enough money to change the rear yet).
From a standing start he would beat me off the line every time and win. From a 20 mile an hour roll I would barely win. That 1 horsepower advantage that I had would show itself once I got my sled moving. Or was it the big bore short stroke 361 advantage over the small bore long stroke 360?
I never raced a Magnum 360 since I had liquidated my empire (marriage and kids) by the time the 360 Magnums came out.
