If anyone has Ken's number at Oregon cam, could you please send it to me in a PM? Thanks again for all the information.

I understand but considering the duration at .050 I'm thinking that's with 1.6 rockers, with a solid roller and the right valve train that should be fine if that's really what the op wants.
I still haven't decided on the rocker ratio. Jim did mention he likes the lift in the cam, not the rockers, so I'm guessing we're talking about 1.5's. Thanks for you input, I appreciate it. Paul.

Happy Birthday Paul!!!

If you plan to run on the Interstate in FL you need to cruise at 70 minimum. Even at 70 you are going to be impeding traffic.

That’s a fact! Paul also knows this since he is a born and bred Floridian.

I'm still listening to all opinions. I thought the cam sounded too big, that's why I asked for opinions from people with more experience than i have. Pump gas here is 92 max, soI told Jim I'm keeping thr compression down to 10.5 or 10.6 to 1. My TC is still open for debate, so more opinions are welcome. I'm not trying to start a fire with the members here; I'm looking to learn. Thanks to all. Keep 'em coming, please. Paul.

THe TC isn't really up for debate unless you don't dyno the engine, which at that point you are guessing. The TC should be between peak Tq to 500rpm over peak TQ, unless that number needs to be adjusted due to vehicle usage.

Don't worry about me and lead going back and forth it's the same old burnt out flame LOL.
Like both of us were saying Ken is almost 100% retired so giving him a call at Oregon cam grinding and asking for him specifically maybe an opportunity that's fading.. all of my personal cams have been ground by him and some of my customers. As a matter of fact I should probably call him soon for my future build just so I get an idea... After all it's free... I've never talked to racer Brown and I've heard a lot of good things but right there in the name racer Brown almost makes it sound like his cams are best for racing... I know Ken has a extensive drag racing history yet every time I've asked him for a certain characteristic he's had spot on results...

As an FYI Jim Dowell is NOT Racer Brown. His last name isn’t even Brown. Don “Racer” Brown was just that. A racer and a very good one.

Just because he has “racer” as a nickname doesn’t mean he didn’t grind streetable cams. One is irrelevant to the other.

If you told Jim the correct details of your build and your actual expectations you’ll get the right cam.

I have a hard time believing Jim is throwing out numbers when you haven’t nailed down your gearing and converter.

FWIW...the avatar has an Eddie head 408 at 10.5 CR. 850DP Holley on a Super Victor. 251/256@.050, .565ish lift. 4.56 axle with an 8" ATI tc that stalls right at 5000. Built it for the track but my wife said too much of a fun car just for the track so we put it on the street too. LOTS of fun - plan is to get her to drive it this year!!
If I had it to do again, I would put MORE cam in it. No freeway driving but that's not what these cars (or this one) was made for. Very streetable and fun. Have not had the car weighed yet but guessing 3100 + me. Bests are 1.51 60', 7.11 in the 1/8th. Too much gear for the 1/4 - should have a 4.10 for that. Car needs tuning something fierce...chassis (CalTracs, Rancho shocks) and engine. I'll bet there are those on here that could dial it in better and faster than me. But probably not have more fun doing it! So hope to work on those things this year. We'll see.

I mention this just to share that the OP will have a strong car. Put some cam in it and let the tc do it's job. These SB strokers are a whale of a good time and quite capable in these light cars. I'm also a bit surprised nobody mentioned he might need a bigger carb than a 750.

I sure that's his general thinking but he mentioned to yr the last time we talked about my la engine with trickflows he would like to see a slower lobe and 1.6. The guy is definitely a thinker and custom picks to the entire combo.

LOL, he could go to a 1000-4150.
But is it really necessary for the street?

Thanks for your input. I appreciate it. I'll call him and my machine shop later this week, after all my income tax paper work is filed.

It’s a slippery slope. We all like spending his money. Kim
I just turned 64 today, so spend away! I want to do this build right the first time. Again, thanks for all the brain power being fired at me. In the long run, you're saving me money.

100%

One of my all time RB favorites and a very street friendly cam is the 240@.050/.528/112LSA solid cam.
