My favorite baseball movie is a 1949 B&W comedy called It Happens Every Spring starring Ray Milland. Milland plays a college professor who is a brilliant scientist and is working on a formula for a coating on wood that will make it repellent to things like bugs and mice. Through an accident he discovers his formula, when put on a baseball, will make it impossible to hit since the liquid causes the ball to repel wood. So he decides to become a major league pitcher. He travels to Saint Louis and convinces the owner of the Cardinals to give him a tryout. The tryout is hilarious. Miland is only an OK pitcher, but he struck out about 20 people in a row during the tryout. The ball was taking some amazingly funny hops over the bat. He becomes a big success. He has to keep it secret, because the President of the University (and his girlfriend’s father) thinks baseball is a waste of time. It is a FUN movie to watch.

I think my second favorite is For Love of the Game with Kevin Costner. I really like the way they tie the current game into a series of flashbacks. I also like the way Costner talks to himself on the mound.

Bull Durham because it was written and directed by a former Triple-A ballplayer. Many of the characters were based on real people.

Caint ignore The Pride Of The Yankees. That's a classic.

I do like that movie. I did not realize it was written and directed by a former Triple A player. I do remember hearing that some Little Coaches took their teams to that movie thinking baseball theme, and being a bit surprised at some of the racy content. LOL

its got to either the sand lot, or major league

why?

because those are the only two i know

They all have their merits and their drawbacks. Uecker was hilarious in the first Major League movie but the sequels kinda sucked. Bull Durham was my early favorite but then I became disgusted with Sarandon and Robbins and what they stood for and now every time I watch the movie that is all I think about. Although its not a movie and their are numerous versions of it I still bust a gut every time I see Abbott and Costello's "Who's On First".

Take me out to the Ball Game because I like Esther Williams. Milltown Pride because I live in SC and it has a little flavor of small town South in it.

Lots of great baseball movies covering different genres. Too hard to pick favorite, but heres a list.
Pride of the Yankees(true story)
Eight men out(true)
Bang the drum slowly(true??)
Major League
The Natural
Field of dreams.
A special mention to 2022 Blue Jay's. Vlad Jr. said at beginning of this year "last year was the trailer, this year is the movie". So far it's been a great movie lol

Yes, Ron Shelton was a good enough player to spend two seasons in Triple A. He was a second baseman and utility player. Unfortunately for his baseball career, Bobby Grich was Shelton's teammate. Grich got promoted to the Orioles, and Shelton was released. There's no way he was going to crack that 1970s Orioles lineup. He did alright for himself, and still does occasional appearances at the Rochester ballpark.

Your kidding...no one said "Bad News Bears"? I liked 'Major League'..Dad was a huge Indians fan. Heck, I liked 'Slap shot' too...
