At the time of its introduction, the 5.2 L Magnum created 230 hp (172 kW) at 4,100 rpm and 295 lb⋅ft (400 N⋅m) at 3,000 rpm.
From ALLPAR:
318 LA HP 230@4400 RPM
Torque 340 @ 2400 RPM
according to these numbers the LA engine is the torque winner...
