Hey everyone!

In preparation for the $3k Hooptie Drag Challenge between Sorta Stock Mopars (SSM) and Jonny Mopar, a few of us on the SSM team are headed to Barona Drags tonight for a little “research” on the track itself. We decided to run our wives’ cars against each other. I’ll be taking my wife’s 2020 Dodge Durango R/T AWD and competing against my buddy Ezra’s wife’s 2021 Tesla Model Y Performance.

You can watch the race live tonight at 530pst/830est via the Sorta Stock Mopars page here: 2020 Dodge Durango RT AWD vs 2021 Tesla Model Y

Or you can check the Sorta Stock Mopars YouTube Channel for the recording. I’ll be sure to post the YT link here after the race.

I also plan to record any other cool Mopars that may happen to run tonight as well . Please like and subscribe if you like what you see. I’m just a young guy trying to keep the thrill of these old Mopars alive. Thanks.

I hate to say it but my money is on the tesla. I ran one with my gen2 hemi and he pulled away pretty good. Maybe a hellcat would have a better shot at beating it.

The hellcat matches the Tesla in price. I’m just hoping the AWD system compensates for the low power.

The electric torque is tough to beat. I recently watched a drag race with the new electric Chevrolet pick up, the TRX and the Raptor. They finished in that order. My concern is that much torque means that much energy. A 1/4 mile race is one thing- let’s go full on race from NY to Cali and the recharges vs the gas fill ups will not be equal. The electric is nice for local runs under 400miles. But with out a recharge ya walking home.

I don't know about the model tesla you're racing, but I saw one at Irwindale, with a rookie racer so raw, he couldn't find the starting line, the finish line,or the turnoff road without help.
First pass, to about 500 ft under power...... 7.20 something. On the brakes.
Next pass, all the way to the finish line, ......6.45.
My money would be on the tesla. Sorry.
Have FUN anyway! Wish I was there!

Watched it. I miss barona. I need to get back down there.

Here’s the video on YouTube:

I was able to iron out my reaction time down sub .1 on my last 3 passes. Best ET was a 10.005. That Durango sure is heavy.

Looks like you had fun !! Reaction time has no bearing on your ET you ran. What was the mph ? I ask because you ran about the same ET as my '89 B250 Van.

It went through the traps at 70mph just about every pass. There was a 90’s Ford full-size van running there last night. I think he was running mid 11s

Nice! 69 mph for our van. Fun stuff !!

Wish I would have seen this earlier, I would have brought my Dart. I only 14 miles from the track, but since this is normally an off week didn’t think anything was goin on.

Next time! I’m hoping to be back out for a little test and tune with my budget ‘68 Dart in early June.
