Honest feedback on wheel/tire combo please

-
The car looks excellent.
I'm 56 and a fan of newer wheels. The dudes that stick to stock sizes will ***** and insult guys like me but I don't care.
I cannot stand the look of painted steel wheels and small hubcaps on anything but a stripped down model from the 60s. I know that a lot of people like the look but to me, it has to fit the model.
Take this 65 Dart for example....

In my opinion, this car looks fine with the wheel choice. I don't like them on Duster-Demon-Dart Sport models or anything built from -68 and later.
I wouldn't insult a man for using them if he is happy with them.
Although I love the larger diameter wheels, the tire has to have some sidewall so the 20" wheel look doesn't appeal to me in most cases.
At the same time, I also dig the "Day Two" period correct slotted wheels, the American Racing or Torque Thrust spoked wheels. One I really like is this style, made popular by Panasport:

72 years old here. I like the old school look with chrome wheels. My 73 Sport is almost a copy of the one I bought new in 73. I had Keystones on that one. Now I have Vision legend wheels.

I'm 51 and think they look fine on there. I hate 5 spoke type wheels but that's just my personal taste. I say to each their own!

65 and you get 2 thumbs up. I would love to see a view from the rear. I like the way the wells are filled up.

I am just short of 69. Not a fan of big wheels either, but I agree with those who give your particular combo a pass.
But yeah, the shackles, and missing sidemarkers, meh; but I'd be more concerned about what appears to be, tiny-looking front drums.
Jerry, I would be happy to own and drive that car, allbeit with disc-brakes, and a rockin' hi-compression 367/4-speed! She'd be spending a goodly amount at full-lock and tires on fire, living up to her name.
The shackles you see in that picture are no longer. Those were some goofy home-made ones that were on it when I bought the car. The funny thing is when I went back to stock, not only don't they show anymore from the side but I swear the rear ride height stayed the same which is strange.

31, Dog Dish cap all day. 255 60 15 in the rear 205 70 15 in the front. although those dont look that bad.

sidewalls too short. Best thing about large diameter wheels is that it only takes about 20 minutes to take 'em off :p.

I’d love to see you try and swap out my wheels for some 15” wheels in only 20 minutes. Clearly not someone that understands some of the performance benefits available by going to larger diameter wheels.

When I purchased my 71 Demon project in December 2020 it had these 5x4- 17" Boyd wheels with 225/50R17 up front and 225/55R17 low profile tires in the rear.

I absolutely HATED them when I first purchased the car but I have kind of grown used to them...like that old rust stain in the garage sink. I'm kind of old school with wheels.

If you wouldn't mind providing honest feedback I'd appreciate it. If you notice I deleted the side marker lights, so maybe these are more appropriate than say old school cragar's? I have a theory that low profile tires appeal to a certain age bracket so if you wouldn't mind giving your age +/- 10 yrs along with you "yeah" or "nay", I think it would be interesting.

Sidewall a tic too short for "me" but I really like the wheels. Oh and 57.

Do you have pictures with the long shackles gone? I bet that helped the look a ton.

Not a fan of the 17/18 and so on …. I’m old school, old school hot rod needs old wheels and tire sizes !! Not a black wheel fan either ! 56 yrs old , I’m stuck back in the days lol …. Honestly, it doesn’t look to bad on your hot rod though ..

Looks good. 60. Most of the cars that I pull away from out of the hole have low profile sidewalls. They tend to spin sooner than a tall stretchy sidewall will under power, but can definitely help in the corners versus a tall stretchy sidewall especially when the car's suspension is enhanced.

In the end, it's all about matching the car's components to what you like to use it for.

This picture isn't taken quite low enough but the shackles are completely tucked up and away even if you were to lower the camera.

Old school style with a new wave look. I like it. (and I'm an old fart)

Me again.
I think a bit taller, wider tire in the rear, if you have the room, will help. And the fact that they are gray, instead of polished or chrome, is a huge plus. Polished, that wheel is gaudy, yours look great.

(I have a very similar wheel on the back of a 57 sedan delivery, 15x8 with 255/45x17s. )

I'm 52 and honestly they don't look bad....BUT....if I found a 71 Demon (which I'm actively looking for) and those wheels were on it, I'd still buy the car but those wheels/tires would be up for sale ASAP. I'm very old school and I love stock and "Day 2" mods. I prefer Cragar S/S's with a 275 60 15 Pro Trac bias ply on the rear and S/S's up front with bias ply tires. Bias ply tires have an appearance about them that is so tough looking. But you might be using your car in a much different way than I would so your current set up suits your needs. My preferences are NOT for everyone. Hey, if you like em, keep em. Who cares what anyone else thinks? It's your car. BTW, REALLY nice car. Let me know when you're tired of it. I'll buy it. Good luck.

It's not my taste. I'm 57 and I personally prefer the old school look. 15" fills the wheel wells with the right tire.

Looks Good but i am old school and prefer them to look the way they were when new.
You're right about the age thing. They say if you are 50 or younger and "don't" have headers you're embarrassed to open your hood.
..and if you are over 60 and "have" headers you are embarrassed to open your hood. Sometimes it's true!

I like them and would keep them for sure. I bought my car with 18" wheels and wasn't fond of them at first but they've grown on me. I prefer a larger wheel now over the stock 14" wheels that were original to my car.

Not bad. And in my opinion is because they accent the car. Once a rim becomes that "Accent" And takes away attention from the car itself? It's almost universally shunned. Especially on classic car.

Below (I believe) is a prime example. When you look at this Charger. Your eyes are immediately drawn to the rims.

What makes good art? It's all about eye attention. A good piece will demand more eye attention. The longer you look? The better. But if deflected like that of this Charger? You don't see a decent shade of red paint. Or the updated hemi Powerplant. You just see and ask. "What's up this the rims?" Thus "Too much." In my opinion.

That's just junk on junk. I never liked the Magnum based cars and those wheels make it look even more of what it is. Fugly.
