Another Mopar Off My Bucket List - Barracuda Fastback

-
I've been on hiatus for about 4 & 1/2 years. I guess maybe I should explain the long absence. Most of you probably don't believe in alien abductions so I need to come up with another excuse.

Truth is that I let too many things get to me, stress built up, and I had another nasty heart attack (my 4th). The local hospital sent me to a major hospital (Bryan Memorial in Lincoln, NE) an hour away. There, they claimed there wasn't anything that could be done and sent me back home despite my excruciating chest pain.

Within 12 hours of getting back home the pain became unbearable and the EMTs were back at my house. After some discussion they opted to send me back to Lincoln, but this time to NEBRASKA HEART INSTITUTE. They did some creative blood vessel splicing to perform the repair work to keep me above ground.

Unfortunately the amount of time spent with inadequate blood/oxygen supply to my brain wiped out half my memory. I spent months trying to remember common words like cat & kitchen, etc... It was a real downer. I sorta lost my sense of humor and became more introverted. I stopped most car progress and focused on re-training my brain. I am just finally trying to get back to more shop time but half of my memory was wiped out. I struggle quite a bit with facial recognition and my concept of time is really skewed.

So for any of you poor souls that have suffered through reading this thread, the bad news is 'I'm back'.

OK, OK, OK ALREADY! That last update was pathetic! I'm sure you all expected that I'd actually been spending my time these last few years in a camper parked next to a cat-house in Vegas. First of all, I don't have that kind of money to be parked there that long and I don't even own a camper.

I did actually make some progress in the garage despite the slow go. We did get the Hemi built for the Charger. It's gonna be a while before it'll be in the car but it exceeded our expectation on the dyno. 1600HP!

On a sad note, Spence is moving to California. ( rumor has it that he got into an argument with someone and they told him to go to hell. - he shouldn't have taken them literally ) In order to afford to purchase a house there he had to sell his '70 Roadrunner (and his soul).

One last photo of it before we took it to it's new owner. - And one last drive.

Glad you are back!!! I pray your health improves.
NO ONE moves To Ca.!!!!! Must be a typo!!

Thanks barbee. I'm sure that most of the people that know me best are rightfully disappointed that those voodoo dolls they'd purchased didn't work. ( - and Hillary, I swear Epstein didn't tell me anything )

- and as far as Spence's decision to move to the (far) left coast, it's hard for me to believe it's true. Some things in the world seems topsy-turvy. It's almost as if Brandon really could have gotten 81 million votes. I'm gonna have to keep my eyes open for them flying pigs now.

Agree, he should be posting his halloween home decoration pics about now.
Hey Scott. - Are you sure I haven't been here this entire time and that you've experienced a loss in time? Maybe YOU were abducted by aliens and probed. Does it hurt when you sit down?

And then...just like that....there's @1967'cuda!!!!!!
We missed ya!! Thought maybe you got lost in the Ne. Sandhills???

Nah! They don't let me out on my own anymore since I forgot to put on underwear.

(in hindsight, there might not have been so many complaints if I'd at least been wearing pants)

Hahahaha glad I made you laugh! Killing me lol. Love the builds for sure. Recall you were doing house stuff as well

Recall you were doing house stuff as well

I was working on a LOT of different stuff. My memory's pretty shot now but I think I was on the verge of curing cancer, eliminating world hunger and developing $0.02 a gallon gasoline. Or maybe I was just getting close to figuring out how to tie my shoes. (Velcro has always confused me)

Hey John! I too have been on hiatus for several years, been lurking a bit, but not posting, but when I got the notification email that you posted something I had to check it out! Really great to hear you woke up on the right side of the grass! My Cuda is still in the garage, just lost steam on it , but need to rekindle things and get tinkering again. Look forward to your posts.

STILL IN THE GARAGE!!

Why..... I oughta come over there and slap some sense back into you! By now your Cuda should have been DONE and you should be getting a 2nd mortgage to pay off all the traffic tickets you'd been shoving in your glove box.

I'm REALLY disappointed! When I managed to crawl my way back to FABO I was looking forward to hearing how well you endured your 1st cavity search, details about your 1st cellmate, and what it took to get your car back out of impound.

Just keep in mind that parents are relying on you to provide them with the stories of bad examples for future generations. Finishing the Cuda is practically your sacred duty!

4&1/2 years was a long time to have gone without updates. Despite a bunch of problems that cropped up during that time I actually DID make progress on several projects.

UNFORTUNATELY............

I didn't take many pictures and my memory is so bad that I've probably forgotten most of what I'd done.

1) I did a bunch more work on my buddy's '69 Coronet. It's getting close to rolling out of the body shop in B5 Blue.
2) I did more work on my other friend's '71 GTX including gauge panels and factory (over the front fenders) stripe installation.
3)We gave up on the FAST efi and installed a Quick Fuel carb on the Roadrunner. After getting it dialed in it dyno'ed at 400 RWH. It was really fun to drive when the gremlins disappeared.
4)The '68 Charger has had a crap-load of welding/massaging done to the chassis. A new aluminum gas tank was purchased for it but had to be modified to fit properly to clear the cross brace located above it. We struggled to get the steering column coupled with the rack & pinion but eventually got it. The line-loc/brake lines are plumbed. An adjustable 'cushioning' device was installed to control drive-train shock when you pop the clutch. (it's supposed to prevent parts breakage and optimize line launches)
5) I'm still in the process of building a 26'X40' shop behind my house. I even purchased a 2-post hoist for it.
6) Unfortunately I had a bad accident on New Year's Eve while working on the shop. My left hand was de-gloved. They were able to repair most of it but I'd probably be better off if I had the now useless pinkie amputated. They say it'll be at least another year 'til I'm out of pain.
7) I bought an enclosed trailer and worked on modifying/painting it.
8) I modified our open trailer by extending the tongue, adding a spare tire mount, and an electric tongue jack.
9) I built another huge digital slot car track down the basement. This one is a banked oval.
10) I built Teresa's grandkids a home video arcade that's got over 1000 games on it. The custom cabinet I fabbed houses a 30" monitor and high end arcade sticks/buttons.
11) 4 more pinball machines were added to our home decor including 3 that are digital.
12) I finished constructing an open stairway in that house we were working on.
13) We put a new roof on that house also.
14) Dealing with local government continued to suck. Attorney fees last year ran me $10,000 fighting that Rising City city council. Here (where I live) in David City the building committee and city council kept adding fees, requiring I go above and beyond building codes (if I wanted a permit), and dragging their feet on allowing me to have my shop built. Between the additional costs of having to apply & re-apply for permits, the added cost of doubling the amount of concrete (that actually was required) and the increase in material costs (due to inflation while they drug their feet) my cost over-ran by almost another $10,000. Needless to say, this stuff almost bankrupted me.
15) To try to remain afloat I decided to sell the home farm acreage that some people had been begging me to sell them. (it had been in our family for around 150 years) After messing around for about 3 months and costing me another $1000 they backed out.

So anyway, I'll try to add new photos when I do get a chance. - But at least you guys are sort of up to speed on what all's been going on over here now.
