Has anyone used the console and dash overlays from Detroit Muscle Technologies? If so, how do they look? Pics...

In my opinion, for 35 bucks or so for the dash, and about the same for the console, it caint be beat for the money. I ordered separately, a day or so apart, then e mailed them, and they combined shipping! Saved a few bucks

The DTM overlays are great! They fit perfect, and so far have held up really well for me. I actually sent a few different rallye dashs back and forth with Jim, the owner of DMT, to get the lower overlays made up for my dash.

This picture is from the original installation in November of 2013

From September of 2020 when I added the console. They're still great, but that's apparently the last picture I took of the dash.

Real question is how long does the adhesive last?

Mine were not adhesive backed, I glued them on myself with an epoxy type glue. The dash overlays I got back in 2013 though. The console was newer than that, probably a few years ago. But also not adhesive backed.

I've got some of the carbon fiber units for a Rallye dash I was supposed to get and they are made out of 3M vinyl. They look to be very good quality.

I have a set of the DMT dash overlays for the rally dash in the 68 Barracuda.
I have ‘set’ them in place and they look fantastic.
It looks to me that the overlays cover over a few of the screws that would need to be removed in order to remove the gauge cluster. So I am thinking of using strips of two sided tape.
I am interested in hearing how others mounted the laminate. Mine are not adhesive backed.

How long ago did you get them? It's not a peel and stick deal, ya have to wet em..

I used a hole punch to make little cut outs for the mounting screws and used a vinyl epoxy on mine. I just put tabs of epoxy in the corners, the overlays were rigid enough to maintain their shape in between.

All the DMT overlays that I’ve seen are vinyl backed 3M material. They’re not stickers or vinyl tape, they’re actually pretty thick vinyl. Are you sure you’ve got DMT overlays?

The ones I have are closer to plates than they are stickers. They’re definitely not water slide anything.

Good information and great pictures. How durable and scratch resistant are they? Do you use 3M 77 spray to attach them?

Good information and great pictures. So, you have to wet the dash overlay and the console overlay like a plastic model decal for them to stick?

Not unless they’ve completely changed from a couple years ago.

DMT was not like the sticker overlays that are sold by other manufacturers

Well if that’s true it’s a damn shame, because they were way better than anything you could water slide.

Ehh, dude, for 70 bucks, for the entire dash, and the console, I'm happy. I cain't afford a 400 buck console report top. Well, I could, I guess, but piss on that.. they look killer to me, and the Blue Eyed Blonde worked Art w/ a paint pen for the piping...

Yeah but the great thing about the overlays they way they used to be is they completely covered the original surface. As in, if you had an extra hole, or some damage, you just lay the overlay directly over it and it would never show to the front. If they’re thin enough to water slide the surface underneath would need to be way smoother.

Eh. Again, these are pretty darn good for the cash. And they will cover small imperfections, if you have a giant hole in the dash, well... maybe it's time for a dash? Just for clarification, I'm in a 74 Duster. Different gauge set up than Rallye. Although I'd love to put one in!

Ok, in looking into it further it looks like the upper dash overlays for the rally dash have an additional backing material, they're mounted on .020" aluminum. Like on mine, that's where the metal trim highlight comes from. You can see it from DMT's eBay ad picture still

Or in this close up of my dash

The lower and the console are a little thinner. Didn't seem like a water slide type thing to me, they're too thick to roll and came flat packed. But maybe you can do it, I glued mine down. It looks like the overlays for the non-rallye dashes aren't the "backed" version like the upper dash overlay.

And for the record, I'm also in a '74 Duster. I converted the dash panel and modified a rallye dash bezel using one that had been cut to make something that would work. The overlays went a long way to making that possible. I'll put some of the pictures here, but you can see my whole conversion starting on the first page of my build thread and going through page 3. The link is in my signature

The DMT material is vinyl, .020 or so thick. I contacted DMT late last year to get the name of the material supplier as I was building a gauge - switch mount for the 68 Barracuda to go in place of the center counsel and I wanted the appearance to match the DMT dash overlays. They got me the company name and I got the matching material.
It is thin vinyl, no adhesive backing and certainly not a decal or water slide.
I’ll get a photo tomorrow and post it.
