Master Cylinder "Locking Grommet"?

Where does this go? Listed on Brewer's for all manual brake applications.

Inside the piston of the master cyl. Assuming your master does not have one now.

It holds the pushrod in place.

Note the manual brake application note
 
I've whittled them from an appropriately sized piece of rubber hose to fit the pushrod & M/C I.D.. But there are some M/C applications that don't have the corresponding groove inside.

I think power brake master cylinders and pushrods don't have the provision for this grommet (not necessary with power brakes). With all the mixing and matching done over the years, your manual brake setup may not be able to take this either.
 
Master cylinders don't normally come with a pushrod. You have to reuse your original and removing it usually destroys the rubber grommet.
