I hate cork gaskets, I haven't had any luck with them in the past other than on oil pans with a skim of silicone.
Valve cover gaskets always leaked no matter what I did and that's using stamped steel factory covers.
When I use rubber or neoprene gaskets on the valve covers, I use Gasgacinch on them to glue them to the valve covers, and they don't leak.
Of course the surfaces are clean and oil free as well as the gasket surfaces and holes are level with the right torque used....
