Going to a Mopar Gold Mine...

-
Searching the interwebs last night I found a black convertible challenger in NJ for 21k and another one for like 18k but I forgot where I saw the add and havent been able to find it again today. Both were originally 318 cars.

I had a yellow 70 cuda years ago, personally I think the E bodies are overrated. I mean they are nice, and they drive nice, but a pony car they were not. But then again everything else that was supposed to be a pony car in 1970 grew in size and weight.
Way over rated. I had a 70 Cuda U code 440 'CUDA. I could barely see over the dash and and everything in the car is hard to reach and hard to operate. To get the clutch pedal all the way down, I had to get up to the steering wheel at the front edge of the seat.

That car also brought too much attention, people followed me and everytime I went shopping I would come out and someone would be waiting to see who the owner was.

I don't miss anyting about that car. I bought it in the early 2000s for $8900. and sold it in 2014 for $29,000. it was a low option car too. 440/4 speed (numbers matching) white with a stripe delete and painted top. the standard 2 scoop hood. Standard dash with bucket seats but no console and no radio and "plymouth division" hubcaps

I see both quarter windows in the pic, and the rear top well stuff appears to be there too. If the door glass is in the doors, that's great. The outer windshield stainless stuff may be laying on the hood. It's a blank canvas that Doc can fix anyway he sees fit. I think it will be a nice second car to add to his collection.

:steering::thumbsup:

Time to get your wife involved.:D
Gateway classic cars is selling a 1971 Challenger convertible dressed in Panther Pink.
for the low cost of $49.900 or 660 dollars a month.

Sure would be nice to be in a position to just buy the pole barn etal. Oh well, dream on... There isn't enough time left for one man to do all of those justice anyway. Damned nice dream though!

Pink is a good color!

Found another one for 32k waiting for pictures.

I had a bunch of V code 70E bodies back in the late 80s early 90s. The funny thing was back then, a U code 440-4 was worth squat! I could not really understand that. I had a couple of those and projects and could not hardly give them away. But as Rani's story, they got desirable later and then worth some pretty big $$.
I agree with Rani, the E body is over rated. Sexy looks but it has some flaws.... like everything. If I never had one, or drove one I would want to find someone that has a good one and drive it just to see if it would be desired.

This is good advice, that hopefully everyone is listening to. Feds raising by 1/2 a point this coming up month... forcasts show it could be another 1/2 to to .75 in July...

I like to think I am frugal... my wife calls me a cheap ***... I don't want these as investments, honestly 99% of the time putting money into these cars or any other car is a vwry bad investmenr and we will never get out what we put in. I always think that what ever old cars I get I will keep for a long time. If time ever comes to sell them, which I hope is never, I know I will lose my ***. hopefully who ever is the lucky one to buy them will enjoy them as much as I did.
I disagree!!!! A bad investment is something you spend a lot of money on and don't enjoy the path in its outcome. 35 years ago I spent more money on my 69' 340 Swinger/ 4 speed then the car was worth at the time. I have "0" regrets, because I'm still driving it today, have gone to over 600 car shows, met many interesting people and heard of "their" stories, as they also were told of mine (as in this forum). It's not just about the money!!!!

It’s hit or miss....I’ve been in ones that look nice but are crappy drivers, noisy, rattles, ill fitting parts etc....and I’ve also been in ones that are like a new car, but they were also fully restored. So I guess it depends on how they are built or if they have all new parts....I love them but there is a lot of them at the shows, I hate the prices....but I would still love a 71 Cuda 340 someday....❤️

Here in my small little town, there are several e-bodies...2 real FM3 pink T/A Challengers, 70 R/T Challenger convert a guys dad bought new, 70 R/T sublime, 71 R/T Challenger Sassy grass green car, a purple 70 Challenger 340 3-speed car, and a numbers matching 70 hemicuda 4-speed car....they are all nice and driven around too, only seen 1 at a car show, these people just enjoy using them!

The E body probably had the longest and heaviest door of any Mopar, HEAVY!!!
The door panels are like a big drum when you shut it.....whomp!!!!
Rattles..... I was never smart enough to fix the rattles.
The one I had that was the most soild was the first AAR I bought. 1988. Someone else changed it to a 4 speed from a col.shift. Maybe it was low mile car, don't know, but it drove pretty sweet,,,quiet and solid. I replaced a rear qtr. its fourth!! lol
I had it for 4-5 years. Probably the longest I ever had an old Mopar.

My 70 yellow barracuda was a rattle box. It was a slant sux automatic column shifted car with power steering, and manual drum brakes. Nothing else. It was cool to look at, but was a gutless wonder.

I was merely saying financially its a bad investment. Majority of our cars will never be worth the financial dollars we put into them. I 100% agree with the rest of your statement. The dart has been a pleasure to own and I can't wait to get another old **** box to fix up, cuss at, want to light on fire... I am filled with joy and smile ear to ear everytime my kids beg and scream "daddy lets go for a ride in the purple car. I LOVE the purple car."

Buy the E body convertible it’d be sweet. Build it the way you want it over time nice and slow.

The nice thing about a 318 challenger vert is it's a vert. The other thing, is because it's a 318, it doesnt have a pedigree that a 340, 383, 440, ot 426 car has. Kinda like the 67 and 69 cudas I have. This makes it a blank slate. Buy a brochure for that year challenger, Get the wifey involved. Build it off the brochure with colors, options etc as if you went to a dealer back then and coulda ordered one. Tell her this would be cool to build it with whatever options were available. Let her look through the brochure and pick out stuff she would like on it. If you do this, you may not need to buy her a room full of roses.

Plus when you put it together, theres lots you can do to tighten it up and make it feel more solid. Spray foam on the backs of the plastic door panels, thin strips of felt glued between plastic and steel so it doesnt creak or squeak. My 70 was a chicks car, and was pretty ragged out when I got it. I have no earthly idea why anybody woulda ordered it with a slant sux.

I know back then in 1970 there were 2 challenger vert press cars running around the auto show circuit. Both were panther pink, and had a pinkish stripe, white tops and white interiors. I think they were both 440+6 4 speed shaker hood cars. Really good looking and very rare color combo. Back then there were some really cool optioned cars. You 2 could have lots of fun picking out your "brand new" 1970 challenger. I think Mark Worman at GYC does this sort of thing with customers as well.

I used to have a 70 vert as a daily driver. I bout it in 89. If you can get it, I'd say go for it. I was going to say probably somewhere around the 20k mark. But has to come with all the pieces. Of course my opinion. Good luck.

Well its been a long week, I've been super busy with work and trying to secure a loan for a dental practice. Currently trying to get a 1.5M loan at 0% from USDA and it has been a pain in my ***. I may have to hold off on a car for a month or so until the loan stuff is finished going through. Also its not my wife, she said if I want it to just go and get it and to stop bugging her about cars lol....

Havent talked to the guy again, I'll get ahold of him thia week. He was supposed to go to the big texas swap meet last weekend anyways.

You all have scared me with your comments about getting it... also your 20k price range is more than I was thinking lol.

I did find a couple other sweet runners... 23k for a pink 73 cuda w/ a 340... 32k for a red 71 440 challenger vert running and driving w/ no rust. The guy is supposed to get back to me with more pictures, its currently not listed for sale... i also found what I think is a rear seat for a convertible for cheap... but its in Ohio and pick up only... trying to figure out how to get it lol.

Cudas have a shorter wheelbase than challengers. Not sure if that makes any difference with the rear seat frames or not.

That 73 cuda, I'd ditch whatever that hokey assed shifter is in it, and put a stock mopar slap stik ratchet shifter back in it.

Agreed. The guy has only owned the car for a year.
