Car hauler trailers

-
Okla has always been the place to go for any trailer. Guess maybe still is??? I have had a few 18 ft with dovetail, steel or wood floors. The one I have now was bought new out of Chicasha. Never titled, never tagged, never a ticket and its been everywhere! Has sat outside what? 25 years, the tubbing cross members might be getting a little thin? I have replaced that wood floor a few times or so! I prefer the steel treadplate but some say its slick. LOL
I would prefer trailer made in Ok over one mad in Tx. I bet OK will be better and cheaper.

Craigslist homemade special...
Paid$1600-1800?..
It's a tank..
Pulls great and has done everything I've asked..

i dont think it would be an issue for an open trailer like a car hauler, but if i were in the market for an enclosed trailer i would buy one made in the North...where they know not to put a flat roof on it because the weight of 6 inches of snow would crush it
and thats just for starters
Every semi van trailer on the road has a flat roof.

Boiler plate deck instead of wood, Heartland tires, axle brakes, all a must for me. I haul a lot, and I mean a lot of stuff. The metal deck and my slide ramps make loading derelict parts cars much easier to load, the ramps just slide across the deck, wood Wouk be a totally different story.

On the contrary a rich man.. hopefully he dug the copper radiators out of there and sold them to the scrap yard separately...
There's probably more money on that trailer than the trailer is worth...

Has anyone heard of a “Max Built” trailer? It seems that’s what most of the new ones are around here. They don’t seem too expensive, and they look decent in the pictures.

I run the wrestling scrap drive, the A/C units were part of that. The other stuff is where I’m helping a friend clean out his Dads estate full of cars, trucks, and lots and lots of junk. I’m also buying a lot of cars from the estate, mostly for parts, but the good ones will be coming up soon, all for sale as well. All in my extra spare time, of course.

i have a 18 ft steel deck 3500lb axles that my dad bought new in the 1990s bought in mo. been a great trailer i would recommend at least a 20ft trailer, because when you get your car on the back bumper is only a few feet from back of trailer... if you ever get hit from behind the car gets hits before the trailer plus gives you more room to tie down depending on where the d rings are mounted
pulled this trailer with a2004 ram hemi 1500 all over and it pulled it fine, also pulled with a 4.7 engine which are junk engines and dont pull like the hemi or a diesel will.
also i have a 31ft stealth enclosed 10k trailer the 1500 will pull it power wise but dont have the braking or handling of a 3/4ton or 1ton truck, so anything over a 20 or 24ft enclosed i would get a 3/4 or 1 ton truck, and for gas mpg hemi well get like 11 to 13 mpg with open trailer and 8-10 with enclosed. diesel will get better mpg. hope this helps.

in past years I have separated every piece, which you can see is a big job, now I have a deal with the scrap yard to pay more for the A/C units, which are all donated by one company for the wrestlers. Yes, it’s a lot of money, almost $10k last year, easily 1/2 of that from the A/C units alone.

Whatever keeps you busy and helps out. Cool!

I paid $1500 for this 2004 Top Brand trailer about five years ago. It’s got two 7000 pound axles with brakes on all wheels so it’ll tow heavier stuff than a car if need be. It’s 22’ long with fold up ramps.

Top Brand are nice trailers, my buddy owned the company (RIP).
I bought a 12' utility trailer, it was balanced nice, you could back that trailer as fast as you pulled it forward.

My car trailer is a a double G, made in TN, its a 18' with a dove tail, it has been all over the country. It cost $2150 out the door new in 2016 with tags on it.
It has electric brakes on both axles, I added a winch, and tongue box.

Any trailer shown on here would not go for less than 5k, a couple for 20k here on the big island- the shipping of an oversized thing like a car trailer is massive cost.

So I am having to build one sigh. It's still going to cost me like 4-5 K just in materials. I call it "paradise tax'.

I just hauled home an old horse trailer with good axles and rims, tires shot, so that will take the price down about 2k

I have a question here, there's a lot of old travel trailers out there that people would pay you to take away. Are their frames strong enough to turn into a car trailer?
Really it's in the axle rating in a lot of it..
I kind of like the idea of taking an old Dodge class c motorhome and whacking the back of it off and making it into a car hauler... You still get the van type front cab and it's the same small block Mopar 360 or 318 likely you have plenty of parts at home for...
Careful of boat trailers they're balanced completely wrong you would have too much tongue weight...

I would think it depends on what the main frame rails are made of. Most of the standard 7k lb car haulers I’ve been looking at have a 4” C channel frame. I would think if the travel trailer had that, you could reinforce it everywhere else

both mine are open type , ones heavy duty and the other is a converted mobile home chassi .
