So I picked up a 72 dart, was nearby and the price wasn't crazy for the parts that I need to put my 72 340 Duster back together.. bummed out that the people kind of lied to me until I came across the numbers on this motor and the transmission that looks to be a 727... I have not pulled the valve covers or anything yet as the motor is complete and possibly still bolted to its original transmission which I am planning to look into, was not a numbers matching car or anything like that, still a bunch of parts left on it that I'm not going to need but here are the numbers if anybody can tell me possibly compression ratio what size valves might have been used in the head, from what I can tell Date code it is a 1974? (4W 360R3623) on the top front driver side of the block just under the head...
And here are the raised numbers from the driver side of the block above the starter 3418496-2-360

AC car ??? Was everything on the engine ??? The hood looks decent. The passenger inner and rail looks to be in ruff shape. PM me more pictures of the hood heater and dash controls. Steve

How would it be special order? I don't understand that.

Yup, looks like it's a '74 model. If stock for that year, the compression ratio is 8.4. The stock valve sizes that year were 1.88" intakes and 1.60" exhaust.

Oh, guess the "?" In the title wasn't enough of an indication that I was asking, I mean of course then you could have read what I wrote and seen that I was trying to get information...

Smh , anyhow the car itself I believe to have been originally a 318 car based on the VIN, it did have air conditioning and power steering which that was gone as far as the AC goes, the k frame with the power steering set up and the pump was still there which I may wind up using...
The hood is shot rusted out just past the hinge on the driver side, inner fenders do need some love but they give me what I need to put my " Duster" back together, bought it just for the frame rails and the front radiator support...
And yes, found out that the heads are not anything special there was a broken head from a boat under the intake but after the heads came off the motor turned freely.. found a broken exhaust valve with a chip out of it so, looks like it's getting stroked & bored with a set of aluminum heads and an aluminum four barrel intake, my baby blue 72 is going to haul the mail!

All of the 360's had those valve sizes till the magnums.

Question, why would you use used frame rails and radiator support when they are available new?

Stop being a dick. If you "think" the car was a 318 just look at the VIN and decode it. That will tell you the engine as original.

Stop being a dick? Maybe you ought to read the comment that I wrote before you go jumping in here running your mouth! All these keyboard tough guys man that one bus to grape and a fruit fight, I know how to decode the VIN dick! I said in the original comment that it was not a numbers matching car dick! Go f*** yourself!

The inner fender Wells on the car aren't the best, but I'm pretty good with metal and I'm a great welder! Cost is essentially why I decided to go this route, the condition of the frame rails and radiator support are excellent and tell I'm done selling the parts I'll have gotten it for free...

Now again because I don't know everything I'm going to ask a question here, firstly could someone tell me how to add a picture in with my next comment? And the second part is the picture is of the rear in this car it looks to me that both of the shocks are saddled on the back side of the rear which my dusters are not... I'm going to try to get the back up in the air so that I can get a good picture and if somebody can explain to me the difference in the meantime I would greatly appreciate it!

So who is being the tough guy? All I said was I didn't understand. The REASON for that is because in 72 there was no 360 in the Dart, so I was wondering is all.

Shocks on A bodies from 67-76 are all on the backside of axle. Should not be staggered.

Solid, got it! Thanks!
I'll get pics of the parts for you next time I go out now!

The '66 and earlier ones mount the same way, with the stud on the shock plate pointing to the rear of the car. I doubt you could mount them any other way. If you could actually get them bolted on, the bushings would be in a nasty bind.

My mistake, just checked...

That's an 8 1/4 rear. Also looks like a 73 instrument cluster. Are you SURE this is a 72 and not a 73?

Very possible that the instrument cluster was changed, but the door tag with the date and the VIN match the VIN on the dash which matches the top rail up front and the front end changed in 73
