How much did a gallon of gas cost when you first started driving?

In 1979 the year before I started driving gas was around .50 a gallon , by the time I was driving in 1980 it was a dollar. Anyone else remember gas rationing where you could only buy gas on odd or even days depending on your license plate number??? MAN I'M OLD!!!

Ron, I worked in a gas station 1979-1981. During the gas crunch, my dad would drive down at closing time to block one entrance while I blocked the other. People would still drive around back and through the grass. It was awful....unless you had a key to the station and could go in wherever you wanted. Lol.
