Moparts

-
It got overrun with B and E body snobs and us A-guys jumped ship to FABO. It probably lost 40% of its base and then just died on the vine with the same 10-15 posters bashing each other. probably lost its lease of the name and disappeared.

All the fast guys are still over there and some from here. lol

Does anyone know what happened to Moparts?
Would you be more specific?
It used to be the 800 lb gorilla. There are still many good things about it but one glaring problem they have is a complete lack of appreciation for the members that contributed.
FABO/FBBO member 1WildR/T was a heavy contributor to the forum there. He had one scuffle over a simple mistake and they dumped him like garbage. Scott Smith quit posting because the forum owner saw greater value in "Infolinks" pop-up ads that take up half the page than the forum members complaints. Their greed for money from those ads chased off a lot of people.
Heavy handed over-moderation turned off many people. These forums would be nothing without the traffic generated by the members. The Moderators alone cannot generate enough traffic to support a forum.
That is not to dismiss the value that the Moderators provide. They volunteer to do a job without pay and often get bashed for it. I've stated numerous times that I'll never understand why anyone would take on that responsibility.
Moparts though....
I have not seen the snobbery that some allude to. If it exists, it is not something that I have seen.
Their race forum gets a lot of traffic.
It is unusual though that many car forums seem to be losing traffic and members while the FABO-FBBO-FEBO-FCBO sites seem to be doing well. Maybe some of that is due to there being more tolerance to express opinions here? Stuff I post here and FBBO would get me banned at Moparts and it actually has.
One time, a guy posted a picture of a woman in a bathing suit on the hood of a car. I responded..."I like sex". THAT got me banned for a month.
Another time....during the Obama years, a member posted about an Alabama football game that went awry. His thread title was..."'Bama fans, I'll bet you want to string this guy up". I responded that while I had no love for him, to suggest we lynch the President is a dangerous suggestion. That got me banned for awhile too.
I just like to be silly and get a few laughs. Sometimes the Moderators over there simply didn't like my brand of humor.

Oh, they invited me back, but I have no tolerance for their heavy handed and unequal moderation... I returned to post a goodbye to the members & haven't posted since...

I used to visit Moparchat some 10-15 years ago. And that dried up with little to no political reasons? Staying on the front edge is not easy. I believe A,B,C and Ebody separation does have advantages. As well as a News/Political section that can separate those that wish to engage with "BS Warfare."

What is the magic online formula? I personally don't have the metrics or pulse on public opinion. But do any of us?

well they chased off a ton of knowledge over the years with their moderation. info links killed it for a ton of people too though using an add block i never saw them over there. fsacebook took a chunk of users from there, there is and has always been cliques there for years, not part of it then you better not have anything negative to say about anyone in those cliques or you'll get a vacation... i do see they have a current events (unmodersted) forum now.. going thorough there is like the old yellowbullet. peoples true colors show up in there it seems.

Adding the current events forum if anything made me less interested in moparts.

Moparts was (is?) useful in that those with certain expertise had shared good info and examples of original stuff.
I think all of these forums/discussion groups lose vitality when instead of being a place to pool knowledge and sources, it falls to one or two people to answer questions. Sometimes its because those 'experts' drive the others out. But probably as many times its not one person being a dick but other things which result in those with deep knowledge leaving. A big factor has to be when there is no reward, no giveback, no real conversation, it becomes a chore.

Yep, it used to be the place to go. I actually bought a couple nice car's from members over the years. Thing's change.

I check classifieds at moparts, but never really find anything affordable. When I do find something I never get a response.

Never paid attention to anything else over there.

I had fun at the scat pack forum and then moparnuts.
Got a slap on the wrist here for making a comment about teens not having jobs and relying on parents money. Someone got their panties all knotted up.

Left for a few years, but needed parts for a project. I see alot of mopart attitudes here more and more.
Honestly migrating away because of all the knotted panties and egos

moparts definitely had/has it's folks that talk down.
Still find some good parts on there.
Still has some good information there. I recently found a vin number for an M46 from ole Barry W. from a very old post. He had a build sheet listed for an m46. He won't share any info with exception of vin number and that it was an M46. He's not mentioned other M46's since I harass for information about M46's.

I was tossed for openly disagreeing.
I hadn't even began with any insults or fk u's...I just explained that what they were doing was causing another problem or was overkill.... banned. Think I was under 50 posts...but i did use a name from here that was notorious...still...snob city over there.

I also owned a Vette so that makes me a super snob.

Yup... That's Mister Snob to you.... Sorry, I own a B body and an E body... If that makes someone have an inferiority complex It's their problem not mine.... I welcome folks to join me in my enjoyment of the hobby whether they own a B/E/A/C or a Ford/GM/or even a foreign vehicle..

Info link commercials killed it. Haven't been back.

Agree, that’s the main issue over the past 18 months. I post on occasion and lurk quite a bit. I got a two week vacation for posting a joke and pic of Elizabeth Warren. Me thinks Tom may have some left leanings.

Don’t
