I have asked plenty of questions, fought Father Time, the mods that had been done by the previous owner and his Junkyard Bros., stuff not quite right by the body shop’s mechanic, electric gremlins and my own screw ups.

After starting failure yesterday, I quit early before I damaged something in frustration. While kicking back last night, it occurred to me that I did not have it on TDC when I indexed the intermediate shaft and the distributer. Think I got it this morning, put a small amount of gas in carb, AND IT RAN TILL THE GAS RAN OUT!

Got to get my son to come by, add water, put a few gallons of gas in, try starting and keeping it running.

BTW, I have officially named this car “Murphy, or Murph,” in recognition of how it adheres to Murphy’s Law.

Ahem.......pictures?
Will be out of town tomorrow, will take some new ones on Sunday. It’s still a work in progress, but getting closer. The photo is with son and grandson, leaving the body shop.

Took some photos. Still a work in progress - even got all my padding for my back while working under the dash.

Son is coming over today to see if we can start it and keep it running.

The Formula S 273 was long gone when I bought the car. That is a 318. Wife wanted dual exhaust, so the rear valence and tips are for a 68. Claire Dare did a great job on the grille, hood inserts and tail panel. Got some hard to find parts from members here, including Barracudakid. Lots of FABO input and knowledge went in as well. Thanks to all.

The old carb had small parts (not part of rebuild kit) that Father Time had worked over, so I broke down and got a Chinesium Clone of it. I have set all adjustments to match original. Fingers crossed.

Basic Petronix ignition with their coil to eliminate ballast resistor. I cleaned the old resistor’s white shell, removed the actual resistor and replaced it with an insulated 10 (or was it 12?) gauge wire. From the outside, it looks like any other ballast resistor.

I have a nice set of incorrect year rallye wheels when I actually get that far.

And the starter just clicked when we tried to start it. New battery had 60% charge. Put it on charger till it got to 70%, then tried again… and it’s alive!

Did not spin 3 times before it fired up. Have to run it some more tomorrow and set the timing. Need to check the idle mixtures.

Currently it has about 2/3 “oil pressure gauge” reading, the performance gauge was just over 18 lbs vacuum. I had put about 3 gal of gas in tank - gauge came off empty. Heat gauge had just started moving when I shut it down.

Oh, and the belts squeak - got to fix that.
