whats everyone doing for car batteries these days??

-
I use Deka batteries exclusively. I have about 30 of them in equipment at work and 5 in my personal stuff. They are not quite as good as they used to be but still one of the better batteries out there.
Batteries are by design only meant to last around 5 years max. Ever notice how long original batteries in cars last compared to the replacements?

Rural King branded Exide.

Wait for it........deep cycle/RV.

Every one has outlasted the design spec.

Last new batteries I bought were for my Cummins and they were from Napa. Been 7 years now and still good as new! They will probably get my money next time.

Cley

Had good luck with Delco too. There is only 2 battery manufacturers in the United States. Johnson Control and Exide. My last CarQuest battery was made in Saudi Arabia. It sucked. I should have went to Walmart.
This is incorrect. Johnson Controls sold their battery division to an investment company, who formed a new company called Clarios which makes Interstate and many other brands.
East Penn Manufacturing makes a few brands, such as NAPA and Deka. Then there is Exide, who makes a few brands. Those are the major battery makers.

If you can fit a group 65 battery in, I highly recommend the Motorcraft.

They ain't cheap but they have the best warranty in the business. 3 year free replacement and 100 month prorated warranty after that. If it goes bad during the prorated period and you have to pay "whatever" the figured prorated price is, the warranty starts all over again. They are badass batteries, too.
Don't think I could ever put a Motorcraft battery in my Mopar, LOL........I use Odyssey by the way and expensive but zero issues.

NAPA for me 100% now. We bought a 1 year old Winnebago in 2012. It came with 2 NAPA Marine batteries for the coach. They lasted 4 years. I bought Wally World Marine batteries from Sams and they lasted 11 months. They replaced both of them and the new ones lasted one year. I replaced them with NAPA batteries, and they lasted 4 years. I just bought 2 more. I have had several Wally World batteries die before their time. A friend of mine has a friend who owns a service station, and he replaces WAY more failed Wally World batteries than any other brand.
I don't know who makes NAPA batteries, but that is all I use now.
I have heard that Optima makes a good battery, but I cannot justify the extra cost.

I guess my CarQuest guy is as full of crap as I am. Lol. Still not very many manufacturers.

Someone should make a modular rebuildable battery: lead plates, zinc plates and add acid. Make slots in the case like slots in an old computer chassis and just slide the new plates in. Continuity test before you throw it on the charger, add acid and charge. Recycle the acid and the old plates. They rebuild batteries in Pakistan and put the vids on youtube..their soldering iron is just that an iron shape that they place in hot coals.

Odyssey Batteries
Most definitely !!! Like night and day between them and a regular lead acid battery.

Optima red top here. Been in my dart sport 360 for 8+ years. Made in Mexico. Many have said in past forums that the made in Mexico were no good or bad. Well the one I have has worked flawless. Have never even charged or recharged it.

I bought and used Sears platinum batteries in my race cars for years. Of course now we know Sears is gone and Advance Auto bought the name and now sell them so I bought one a few years ago. Basically a 220.00 battery with a five year warranty. I used an online 20 or 25% off coupon and picked it up 15 minutes later. Now I see they discontinued the use of coupons on batteries and brakes. Surprise surprise.

I just go to the local Farm and fleet for batteries. Them, Walmart and Die Hard (at least used to be) all made by Johnson Controls. Car Quest too at least before they themselves got bought out by Advance Auto (which was a sad sad day)
I miss the old Car Quest store we used to have, Advance Auto sucks.

Advanced Auto marine batteries I have had good luck with.
The wally world special that came with my Duster when I bought it is now 12 years old and works.
Interstate has want to crap, only worth a year or two now.
The best battery ever was in my wife's Honda 4-wheeler, just replaced it about 3 or 4 years ago, the four wheeler is a 2004 we bought new.

I put a Deka in my daily before this last winter, it seems to doing the job just fine. In the Duster, I'm running a 23 year old Optima red top, tempted to replace it just because, but I kinda want to see how much more I can get out of it!

I use only Interstate batteries here in the Southwest. I worked in the auto parts game for years out here and the only lead acid batteries that lasted out here (other than OEM) were Interstates. Exide, Duralast, Sears, etc. all seemed to die always between 18 to 28 months.

I know right! I just assume it's because up until recently the car's only electrical load was head lights and an MSD box. Now that it has EFI, electric fuel pump and a stereo, it might be time to look into a new one. I leave it on a tender when it sits for a while to make sure it doesn't die.

Duracell/East Penn for me. I have one in all my vehicles. I doubt the oldest one is more than 3-4 years so can't say how they compare to the Johnson Controls batteries you get everywhere else but I just can't stand giving my money to gigantic corporate conglomerate pseudo-monopolies. Prices are pretty good too and I like Batteries Plus, it's a nice store with knowledgeable employees.

thanks for all the replies... after seeing i got 8 years out of that old duralast i went and bought another one. plus they had it in stock ready to go. i may do the mopar decals and yellow caps on it for the hell of it too..
