So, how sacrilegious would it be to change a 72, original Hemi Orange Demon to PlumCrazy..??
I don't want to, but the thought doesn't go away.
In 1984, at 16, my first car was a 72 B5 Demon that I had painted PlumCrazy after a tire shop crushed the passenger side quarter panel..(they said it slipped out of gear and rolled into a telephone pole guide wire..lol) .. I owned that car 21 years(Sold in 2005).
I've looked and looked for it for years, with no luck. Probably crushed and a toaster by now.
Last year I bought another 72. I was stoked because its a factory Hemi Orange Demon. I didn't recall ever seeing many....until after I bought mine.
Now it seems they a plentiful...maybe I'm just seeing the same ones over and over, but doesn't seem to be as "rare" as I thought. So I've bounced the idea around in my head of painting it Plum.. Maybe I'm going a bit far with trying to relive my youth.....
Would like feedback, thoughts and your stories of changing an already cool color to something else..
Thanks..!
Just some clarification.. It's a non numbers matching 318 car.. Originally a manual 3spd floor shift, which I'm putting in a 4spd w/pistol grip ...Has the original 8 3/4 rear end..Was a bench seat car and I changed to year correct buckets... So, it isn't all original...

Yep. Real, original 340 car, or rare hi performance big block car, especially in a desirable color (hemi orange) I would keep the original color.
For a completely unoriginal 318 car, do whatever you like!

Paint it PlumCrazy. It's far from original so make it what you want and love it. I hummed and hawed about switching out original rallye wheels for years. Many people "liked" the rallye wheels and convinced me to settle with what I had. Why not, I liked them too. Then I bought custom rims and I went from "like" to "love".
Do what makes you love it.

Assuming the interior is either black or white, go for it.

Amazing that back in the 70s/80s no one cared about color swaps :). Boy did that change with the 90's boom going forward.

Wonder how many people in the 20's wanted to change their model T's from Black...lol

Color wasn't invented yet in the 20's... Everything was black and white...right..? lol

Actually, tons of people had their cars repainted in the 70's and in the 20's only Ford painted all of their cars black.

Bright paint colors and dual tone color schemes were features of many 1920s cars - with the exception of Fords which for many years only came in black

if you are worried about hemi orange being over done wait till you start noticing all the plum crazy ones around.

being its just a 318 car go for it. a 340 car I'd be heasident because it would probably hurt value. no worries with a 318 car though.

All I have to say is if you walk out in the morning and turn on the garage light and you look at your car and she makes you grin like a monkey your car is the right color. If it don’t, you need to paint it. plum crazy for the win! My Cuda was B5 Blue, it is now Sublime, makes me grin like a monkey every time I see it! No regrets!
