Hey guys, I have a chance to purchase a somewhat solid FC7 purple '71 duster with a clean title. However, someone stole the fender tag and cut out the fender wells. Car does have the 8 3/4, rallye dash, bucket seats. Is there any way to get a fender tag or find the info to have one reproduced? I know for Ford stuff you can get a Marti report.

A broadcast sheet will get most of it. Without one then you are guessing and will have wrong information on it. Bad idea.

1967 and older mopars you can get an IBM card. For 1968 and newer there is no service with info on mopars like Marti reports.

you will have plenty of people telling you to get one made. Bad idea, it’s fake documentation. How will the next owners of the car know of its fake or real when you are out of the picture. This starts out all innocent, “I just want one there, I’ll tell everyone it’s not original”.

they are original once, anything else is fake documentation.

Without the fender tag or buildsheet all you can prove on the car is that is 340 Duster.

Value a car like that as the worst case 340 car: column auto, bench, worst color you can think of. Then take ADDITIONAL off for missing tag and buildsheet.

Bottom line, it’s worth more than a 318 71 Duster with added 340 motor, rallye gauges, 727 trans and 8 3/4. But less than any 340 Duster with tag in similar condition

No Marti type reports for 68 and up Mopars.

If you go over the car and write down every option evident that it has. And what you can confirm was there originally. You can have a data plate made. I had one made and I did not have the broadcast sheet. But you will have a duplicate and should be stated if you ever sell the car. The tag would just be a replacement for a missing item such as anything else the car is missing so it looks complete as it would have came. There is a form you fill out and send it in. If it is not filled out accurately as it would have been such as miss placed data they will not make the plate.

413 and autoxcuda provided great advice.
Think about what 413 told you about tags ---

That said --- if you want to learn about the 1971 Duster 340 equipment - including options ---- take a look at the following link ---- see the Salesman pocket guide for product info. including standard and optional equipment by model.

The 1970 Hamtramck Registry Library Page (1970 - 1974)

IIRC a replacement tag is marked so that it can be identified as a replacement. Depending on where/if you get one it can be up to $500,

Wow, thanks for all the info. I was interested in it for parts for my '70 Duster 340 4-speed car and possibly restore later on. The owner has since told me it was an automatic car. If I buy it I may just use it for a parts car due to the front clip being cut to pieces. I need a '70 trunk lid and the 8 3/4 anyways.

Any chance broadcast sheet could be found? Neat car. If you purchase please post pics

No sheet...just the title. He has the tranny and rear end but motor is long gone.

Does the tranny match the vin?

Should be on this pad 1969-up:

sure but it will never look 100% correct and the car will have a bad sigma to it because of it.
But what the heck,, a car does not need to be 100% documented and 200% original to be a great car.
I say, make the car what you want it to be and a car that you will enjoy. If you build a car thinking what the next owner will want you are building it for the wrong reasons.

then don't worry about a fender tag.

then it will get the stigma that a fake tag comes with. doesn't matter either way to me. the op asked a question and i answered it with the facts.. if thats not good enough with you then i don't know what to tell you.

Don’t fret over having to ‘tell’ me your worries over someone else car.

obviously if the op was asking it was his worries not mine. i just provided the facts. too bad if that doesn't meet your agenda..

Thanks for all of the input. I am currently restoring a '70 340 duster, orange, black interior, rallye gauges, 4 speed, 8 3/4, go wing car.....so the purple one was just a future project or parts car.

We have the original fender tag for my son's Dart GT convertible (273-2/column auto/bench seat/13" wheels/etc.). It now has a 440/4sp/console/Barracuda dash/15" rallyes/disc brakes/handling package/etc.). So we put this tag on:

I don't have the tag for my Barracuda convertible (273-2/auto/console) that now has a 440/727 drive train. I had this tag for it:

AND, my son's tag has caused some so-called experts to go ape over how rare the car is. Unfortunately it only happens when my wife is with the car...

If the original 340 is long gone then you’re not gonna please the “numbers matching” crowd anyway.

Don’t worry about the fender tag, have fun with it!

I have the fender tag for my ‘74 /6 Duster, but no one cares about that. Now that it’s got a 340 and a T56 I should put one of Jim Lusks special tags on it.

Not my special tags. Those are genuine Mopar fleet car tags. Used to be easy to find. Not so these days.

Ah, you got me. I knew the "special handling car" tag was a Mopar original but I wasn't sure about the other one.

I've seen a fender tag that says,"THIS CAR CERTIFIED BY GALEN GLOVIER TO RETAIN NO ORIGINAL PARTS"... the car was fabulous!!!
