How much did a gallon of gas cost when you first started driving?

But not impossible! I had a 1971 340 Cuda.

Not impossible but I do remember subsequent attempts were made at the front of the fender. The fender is just below waist high for a teenage boy to smooch his girl sitting on it.
Rear quarter panel isn't good. Tried that and found that the top of the quarter is just above waist high. forcing a tippietoe situation that led t calf cramps.

I sure hope no one quotes this one out of text. LOL

in 1970 here in iowa many a friday and saturday night not quite 5.00 would fill the 68 road runner tank 35 cents for a pack of winston's and 99 cents for a 6pk bottles old mill, ride around till the wee hours of the morning street racing and chasing the girls, i miss those good days

69¢ a gallon when I first started driving.
In fact I remember going to school one morning, driving past the the gas station and telling myself I tank up after school. That afternoon the price went up to 78¢ and I was pissed!
I had a 1970 Camaro with 250 six cylinder, so it wasn't horrible on gas.
Kinda miss that car. I sold it when I went into the Army and it's probably someones 15 year old refrigerator now.

.24 a gallon in 1972.
I made 2 bucks an hour.
5 bucks would fill the 68 Charger to the flip top cap.

24.9 but I actually bought gas for 15.7 during a gas war in Watertown S.D. in 1969! And a guy in a uniform pumped it!!

89 cents in 76, got worse than that two years later. Just saw 6.50 for diesel, needless to say we’re getting the no idling speech, 25 concrete mixers getting 3.0 mpg, gets pricey quickly.

Just go ahead and stop those mixer drums with 6 yds of 90 minute old mud in them and see how that goes

Whatever gas sold for in 1962. Around a quarter a gallon. I know it was painless to fuel my 62 impala SS 409 tri power hardtop. Tires were another matter though.

You expect me to remember that far back? Seriously I have no idea, but it was around .35 - .40 cents. That was 1976

I didn't start driving until I was 18-19 years old once I had my own car.
That was in 1998, I remember gas being as low as $0.98 a gal.
Back then I had a 1984 Dodge Ramcharger. Costed only $33-34 to fill up a 35 gallon gas tank. Now it would cost about $150+.
I don't have that Ramcharger any more.
But my wife's 2012 Tahoe is not much better.
26 gallon gas tank and only a little better mileage. 16 mpg ave. vs. RC's 12 mpg ave.

26 9/10. My dad ran an Enco gas station back in the 60s and as a kid I remember one of my (many) tasks was changing the sign's numbers from 27 9/10 to 26 9/10 on the weekends. Years later, I asked my dad why we'd lower it a penny every weekend and he told me the other gas station (Shell) across the street needed corporate approval to lower their prices and their corporate office was closed on the weekend.

Late 80's early 90's up here in Canada we pay by the liter which Is about 1/4 gallon, was in the 50 cent range now it's over $2.00 per liter, our government thought putting on a carbon tax after 2 years of economic shutdown would be a good thing :)

I pumped gas and "provided service" at an Atlantic "service station" while in high school, from 1966 to 1968. 24.9 for regular and 32.9 for high test. I could cruise all weekend in my 66 cuda 4 spd/273 for 5 bucks.

I remember my dad often referring to the Friday gas wars in Elmira, NY which is where he worked. Often sold for ten gallons for $1.00, yes, you read that right. That would have been early or mid 1950's I think.

Gas was .50 a gallon when I first started driving in '75

In the late 80's when I starred driving I remember 66 cents was the cheapest.
It would fluctuate from high 60's to high 80's
10 bucks would fill the tank on my 71 dodge Crestwood N code 383 wagon I had .
I quit smoking in 91 I think smokes were a dollar a pack then .
Case of cheap beer was less then 4 dollars.
But a gram of weed was 10 bucks.
Now weed is legal .
Although I don't smoke I have went into the shops to check it out.
Some weed was 10 bucks a gram.
