From anybody that's made the change from DSL to fiber optic, how much of a difference it it really? Is it enough to see the difference?

The speed is like 30 times faster than a 3 Mbps DSL line.

Fiber Optics equaling 100 Mbps.
Depends on your provider, 200, 300, 500 all the way up to 1,000 Mbps for business.

3 types of Fiber service.

1. Fiber to the neighborhood, then cabled in the home from the junction box.

2. Fiber to the Curb, then cabled in from there.

Then the Best:
3. Fiber to the Home, brings the fiber Optic strand all the way into your home.

Lightning strikes don't affect it either because it's a glass strand, unlike DSL is a burried copper line that lightning strikes can jump onto and blow out attached computer equipment and routers.

I have Fiber to the Home in Minnesota, lucky to even get it. They came right by with the main fiber line. Other neighbors just a mile away can not get it because they are off the route.

So yeah, very lucky to get it, had 3 mbps DSL before.

Now have 100 mbps Fiber for 69.00 a mo.

The thing with fiber it is symmetrical, Downloading at 95 mbps and Uploading at 95 mbps.

So it's great for uploading youtube videos and pictures to share with others. Really no waiting, just a few minutes on the video uploads.

@RustyRatRod here are a couple fiber optic line speed examples of what you can do with the Fiber internet service.

Now granted on this example I am on 20 mbps cable line over the wifi here in Florida. Then I go from here and Remote Access my Base Computer at my home in Minnesota on the Fiber Optics line 1,750 miles away.

Did the speed test on the MN computer by way of remote access from Florida, here are the speeds in MN.

Yep, 1,750 miles away controlling that MN remote access computer.

Even took a picture out the MN basement window, then downloaded that pic to here in Florida.

Can sure do a lot of things over the internet when you have good line speed.

I've had both and having 100 mb fiber allows to stream 4K movies while running three computer work stations. You would find it to be a game changer for you as I did.

DSL is one of the slower "broadband". It's normally slower than a decent internet-over-cable-TV system.

100mbps is SLOW now... I started at a 200mbps fiber 3 years ago, got a move up to 500mbps at no additional charge.

There is 1gb service available.

Fiber is much faster to your house

Well good. I am upgrading to fiber here Friday. They've already run it TO the house, now they just need to do "whatever" to get it inside. As it is now, I have 10.6 download and 1.09 upload. Hopefully the fiber will be better. Thanks yall.

Then you’ll be able to post more videos.

Do you remember going from dial-up to dsl and how fast it felt? Going from dsl to fiber is like that, except on steroids. You'll only be limited in speed by your device's ability.

There is one caveat---------and that is MOST websites, including this one, are either throttled back on purpose, or because of server limitations, or because of traffic on the server. That blistering quick "speed" does not always help. Even with videos, sometimes the server can be AFU

I notice this especially when updating my Linux OS or installing new software. Generally those servers are incredibly fast compared to "the other places" I go to on the internet

Where I live we finally got fiber optics I use to have to use my phone and boy what a difference the speeds range from 300 maps to 950....I have the 500 plan.Never had dsl
