Looking for advice on an air cleaner for the Carter 2bbl on my 71 swinger slant. PO put a tiny one on it and told me he tried putting a little bigger filter on it but it pressed into the under hood insulation.....what are you guys running with factory hood?

Picture of what you have would help a lot.

A Super Six assy.....any 318 2bbl assy clocked correctly, may need modded if You've got factory A/C. I ended up w/a Holley 2245 & custom plate to adapt, cut the airhorn section out of a 383 2bbl base & sectioned it into the Super Six bottom, then cut away the housing from below the element seat out...home-made "open" element.
Aftermarket, measure then shop, it's 2022....it's never been easier..

The stock air filter does tend to run a little on the underhood insulation. My stock 73 340 dart sport has impressions on the insulation where the housing rubs on it.

Was this originally a one barrel with a single barrel intake?

I was thinking about replacing my one barrel with a two barrel and a two barrel intake on my '63 slant six. I did not realize I might run into a height issue.

On my current one barrel I have exactly 8.5 inches from the top of the intake to the top of the air cleaner.

What is the height of the two barrel set up?

I didn't want an always noisy intake via an aftermarket open element air cleaner (wife's car).

I did want all the gizmo hot air pipe and vacuum valves from a '70s 318 but couldn't stomach the FeeBay price for a '70s air cleaner housing. I settled for an air cleaner off a '64 318. Moved the fitting for the valve cover breather to the other side of the housing and called it a day.
