It appears to me I am seeing some leveling off on the prices that cars are bringing. I am seeing way more RNMs on Bring a Trailer. It had to happen sometime.

Well, that didn't show up on GOOGLE, but in the car auction world, i had to think about that for awhile.
Think it might be Reserve Not Met?

Bingo! I am also starting to see more houses getting price cuts in my area. That has not happened much in quite awhile.

The people who can afford to buy high end cars are still out there doing so.
Collector car prices will level off but not drop significantly.
I just talked to a real estate broker I know and trust, he told me the bubble burst on wild real estate inflated prices due to mortgage rates rising and he said home prices seem to be levelling off.
Some homes are still selling for above asking prices, I would guess that depends on what part of the country in question
I was thinking of testing the waters with my 69, seeing what bites id get, I would sell it for what I feel is a fair price

I see the old car market now as is 99%of the time. The economy is scaring the low end guys, but they are always the buyer of the cheap ish project ( any heap worthwhile projects???). If they see a crr they want and willing to pay for, it sells. If they an buy it for their price. The RNM deal is usually a a car priced above the current market! I see lots of over priced cars as the norm.
The middle guys are guying but the economy is slowing them down and they are thinking about it all! Everyone love a bargain, especially Mopar guys.
The top guys always have $$$$$ and they spend it on what and where they like. Many of these guys are less hobbiest and more investor oriented.
A bud said other day that is always into whats what parts/car wise...he said cars are slow to sell right now.

There is no question the current state of the economy, ie; inflation, stock market, etc. is finally starting to affect sales. Home sales are slowing in my county and it has been on fire. We are near the fastest growing county in the US.
I have a 1 owner truck on my lot I would have sold in a day a couple months ago, and I have had it for three weeks.

I am so old I was in the Mopar hobby before the first fall of '91-2 like the other old timers here. Then the second fall came after the disaster of 08 or so.
The OP asked about prices and I understand the hobbiest is just that and will always say " we care not what prices can be sold for" unless they are selling or buying!!!!
^^ Take what jacko241 just said above about his truck selling. That is a direct result as the economy starting to cool, stagflation, some recession starting to rear its head, consumer outlook, Fed, just starting to raise rates to try to curb inflation ( a full year LATE) still bad suppy/distribution issues, the energy fiasco, and NO viable leadership in D.C. Not a political statement, just an economic statement. But yes, There is still a shortage of good used vehicles. cars/trucks. Demand is still there, but other factors affecting the market of everyday vehicles?
What makes the old car hobby difficult is always lack of good sales data, as to be able to get a handle on what cars are actually selling for. BJ and other sales in not usually what the average hobbiest needs for data!!! Look at what is listed for ale here and FBBO and see how many are marked sold and what was the ask price which tells you nothing. People hate to tell what they got for their car> Why I don't know, except they will always say, "no ones business"> True!
Problem is today, non of the leading economists agree on exactly where, when, and how it will all wind up at. Most agree we are headed for a recession or almost in one now, interest will go up for sure, inflation will not go away soon, supply side will be a mess for another year or so....and to top it all off, baby formula is going the way of toilet paper in the pandemic!!!

My story. At 74 I would like to get down to 2 cars that are pretty much done. I am wore out and it s darn hard to do the hard, heavy stuff. My example is this. I have 5 cars. One of which is 64 Savoy all body/paintwork done. Interior most done, as in a SS type build. I advertise it everywhere like here, FBBO, all the FB groups and FB Marketplace. At $10,000 with a good title, NO ONE ever says its overpriced. I have had 2 guys come close to giving $9000 but they never came thru. Texas guys like me. They were across in W.Tx 400 miles away and trying to buy it off pics and description. NO ONE wants to drive to get the car, even across Tx. much less from 1000 mi away! Especially today with $5-5.50 diesel/
But Tx. is NOT a hot bed of Mopardom. IF I was in the N.E. or Ca. I bet it would have sold. Been for sale for a few months. So I keep on working on it and spending $$, one day it will be finished at which time it should bring $20-25,000 with a good big block. Or I will just keep it and maybe selloff one or 2 of the other cars!!! Or maybe NOT!!! Maybe the market will have tanked and NO ONE is buying anything!!!!!!
Who knows!!!!! :poke:

I think you made my point. I think your car would have sold quickly a couple months ago.

I agree..... I was being hardheaded. We agreed on a price and then he wanted me to throw in the A833 because he wanted to sell it off to get his investment down a few bucks< Pissed me off. The other guy did not want to come get it, I was not going to deliver, and when I found a bud that had a good car bud that would deliver, he says he was not comfortable with that. In other words a tire kicking wanna be!!!
I see the sellers market for our average old cars getting softer buy the day. I doubt the wealthy top feeders will be affected by the economy...maybe... but rich folk are always looking for deals!!!!
IF the life of me and the wife's gets to a point at some time, where I have to sell cars for whatever they will bring... then that what it will be!!!

barbee6043 i agree with you except the first fall of muscle car prices was not in 90-91 [maybe for you] the government has been playing there shortage and planet killing pollution game since 1973. in 1974 i was driving a 68 road runner and our local paper did a story on gas guzzling cars killing the planet and they snapped a picture of my car and several others, i still have the article ,the gas shortage of 74 caused muscle car prices to tumble you couldn't give away a big block car away and oh yea insurance companies were refusing to insure at any price

GM Ford and Chrysler were getting ready for another model change when the “gas shortage”hit. Isn’t it amazing what happens when another”government emergency” hits. Car prices hit bottom but you couldn’t find a Datsun Toyota.

They have quite an audience from GM Ford and Chrysler and they do very well in advertising. I’m sure someone has a bad experience but not me.

I think anyone that was trying to use hot rods as investment right now is making a questionable decision. I think it's a great way to ruin your passion by worrying about the price all the time or how to make some money. I for one may pick up another car as I get close to retirement just for a project and because it's something I want but would never consider buying one for an investment. At least not more than a couple thousand dollars in profit the market's just too shaky.

Has anyone used BaT?? Any issues good or bad. I'm thinking of using them for my '71.

Look up my account on there under the same user name I have here. I have listed 9 cars on there and sold 8. Prices have generally been higher than most anywhere else. But beware, it is not for the feint of heart. The peanut gallery can be tough.
