Hi guys. Hopefully someone can help me.. My 72 Duster has the interior light group. Map, ashtray, glovebox and ignition light in the column. My problem is with the column light that illuminates the key switch. It never goes out when the quarter or headlights are off. I’ve replaced the relay with a new one and it still does it. For now I’ve disconnected the wire to the light. So it won’t drain my battery. I’ve had this problem since 1995 the year I finished restoring the car and always had to disconnect the battery with I got home. I’m sure I plugged something wrong now but no idea what. Any thoughts on this guys?

Might be a door switch problem. Been a long time since I've dug into that circuit

Go to mymopar and download the 1972 service manual, then look on page 8-148.

There is a time delay relay in the circuit. It is connected to #20 wires, pink and yellow. And to the door switches.

The key light has nothing to do with the running lights. It energizes with the dome light circuit, then the on state is maintained with the "can" - little round thermal time delay.

But isn’t it strange that when I put on the running or headlights on the light goes out after a few seconds. And does not go out with these off.
