Afternoon Gents,
My team, Gorilla Greasers, has been running in the 24 Hours of Lemons series for the last two years. We are not really allowed to run any other series, "too old to be competitive".

Any interest from the die hard Mopar group on posting about our season?

Cast your vote in the survey at the beginning of the thread.

That firewall plug is EXCELLENT!!!

However I am under the impression there ARE other events you can run in, tho-- I'm not familiar, various "vintage" classes. I know the older Mustangs run............

We have run in auto cross, Hot Rod Power Tours, circle track, drag strips, and track days. Our “more door” gets little love even being competitive.
Experiences with “track days” even less so as we run as quick as or faster than high dollar cars. Just looking to see who may have love for the “more doors.”

Any A-body doing any or all of that stuff and being competitive will definitely get my attention. For my own cars I usually prefer "less doors" but when it comes to Mopars set up for handling I'm not picky!

How is your car set up at the moment?

There is a road course near here that is used to train law enforcement, open on the weekends. I was bitten by the bug as soon as I got there. That's why Ive been asking questions sbout beefing the suspension In the middle of a
COMOLETE front suspension rebuild
1. 1/4 front sway bar,
Aftermarket Upper control arms
Bilstein gas shocks
Rear stabilizer bar
4 wheels disc brakes
Aftermarket 18:1 ratio manual box
All bushings
Ball joints
Rod ends
Pittman arm
Idle arm
Etc

Some advice on running adjustable strut rods
Would be appreciated

Yes Post it up. More Fantastic 24hrs/Lemons A bodies = Good stuff!

I am definitely in for what’s to come. Let’s see that moredoor handle!

Any way about it, someone wants to see what we are about. For the "drag racing rules!" group, we still love ya.
From reading comments and questions, I will need to have two threads running. One to cover the team, another to cover the technical aspects.
I will start by setting ground rules:
  • The work done was not high dollar. It is based on the best bang for the buck. If it worked, we kept it.
  • Thread will include all supplier and part numbers for any of the work.
  • This is "Gorilla Greaser's" work. Credit will be given to any contributions of labor or expertise.
  • The followers will be allowed to comment and ask questions. Responses will depend on snarkiness, being cheeky, supporting, and requests for more info. Hostile comments will be ignored.
  • We will include stories from our escapades. Laugh at us quietly or laugh with us loudly.
Our team:
  • Cap'n AJ
  • Woody "Loose Nuts"
  • Chris "Crash"
  • "Busted Heart" Dave
For technical we will cover:
  • Brake Mods
  • Front Suspension
  • Tires
  • Frame Reinforcement
  • K-frame Reinforcement
  • Rear Axle Swap
  • Drivetrain Swap
  • Powerplant
  • Roll Cage
From the team, we will cover:
  • Race Preparations
  • What worked and didn't
  • Who screwed up
  • Who was the hero

Greg (slant six) is a member of "Off Kilter Racing" 62 Valiant 4dr "Lemons" car. I try to lend a hand in the pits, at some races. Car won the "organizers choice" award at Sebring 2021, and the IOE at NCM in 2021. Had some issues at CMP and DNF 2 weeks ago.

For the ball joints and rod ends I would recommend Only proforged. Amazon or summit razing should have them. Avoid Moog/ Federal Mogul joints and rod ends.

I used the Reilly Motorsports Adjustable strut rods. I am sure they have them or can make them, I do not believe they are listed on their website.

Best of luck.
Greg

Subject: Brake Mods

  • For the front brakes, we ditched the original 10” drums on all four corners.
  • Changed spindles to 73 up Duster.
  • Going with 10-3/4 rotors.
  • Running 73 up slider calipers.
  • Running “yellow” EBC brake pads.
  • Removed original shields.
  • Shields replaced with modified brake ducts from Mazda.

Buy Dr Diff caliper adapters for 11-3/4 rotors. Or find used.

Then buy 11-3/4 rotors that are about same price as 10 3/4.

All else same.
