Hey guys, I just recently bought a used 4 speed for my RamCharger. The guy said it was an NP435, but it’s got a PTO port on both sides like the NP445. I don’t think the 435 ever came with 2 PTO ports, right?
I determined first gear ratio is 4.56:1 by counting how many rotations of the input shaft it took to get the output shaft to turn once.
After the first drive, I realized the trans is basically junk... makes a horrible sound when moving in 1st and reverse, slips out of third randomly, and will not go into first unless you are completely stopped.
It has an ID tag on the driver side PTO that claims it’s a 435. But from my understanding, the 435 only had a passenger side PTO.
I’m wanting to rebuild it, but am not sure what to order. I can find kits for the 435 all day, but nothing for the 445.

I have 2 np435’s. One of them has 2 PTO covers. First gear isn’t synchronized, you must be stopped or dead slow to engage..

Is first gear synchronized? That is the litmus test between a 435 and a 445. From your description it doesn't seem that it is.

According to the NOVAK transmission site, the np435 has only one pto outlet. I cannot find anything on the np445 (np4350) there.

The trans is still in the truck. Here’s some more numbers on the passenger side.

Not sure if it’s not synchronized, or just so F’d up it won’t go into first.
I didn’t think the 435 came with a 4.56:1 first gear
