Hi Everyone,

Has anyone run into an issue where the rally wheel covers get in the way of completely bolting down your wheels? I started to install my covers and noticed that the cover gets in the way of the socket I was using and also my tire iron. My tire iron is a lot “thinner” than the socket I was using but still can’t get around them to completely bolt down the wheels. I didn’t buy these so not sure if they are OEM or aftermarket.

Any advice, workarounds, or just general ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Because the rally wheel chrome acorn nuts are so long, I use a deep 6-point socket to avoid nicking the sides. It has no problem getting all the way seated. A tire iron will probably not fit.

longer wheel nuts? - I use Tough Nutz, they are stainless steel and never rust.

They make specific deep thinwall sockets for wheel nuts.

I'm talking about the factory chrome rally wheel nuts. I have acorn-style rally wheel centers, small bolt pattern, and they don't need a special thinwall socket, just a standard deep 6-point 1/2" drive socket. My point was a short socket or tire iron scars up the sides of the nuts, and the tire iron is really too fat and scuffs the paint on the center.

have you got the correct bolt pattern 4'' small or 4.5'' large ? I didn't think a small bolt center would bolt to a large bolt wheel.

Use a good brand 6 point deep well socket . Put a rubber stop in it so the edge of the socket doesn't scratch the paint on the wheel but goes all the way on the nut. Do not use a 12 point and not a loose China brand. Proper tool for good result. Basically common sense.

You didn't say what bolt pattern you have.
SBP use 7/16 studs and 3/4" across flats nuts.
LBP use 1/2" studs and normally 3/4" AF nuts. BUT, there are 13/16" nuts out there that require a larger diameter socket and that might be your problem.

Kosmic is right... I have lug nuts in both sizes. 3/4 is a better fit.

Sorry, I have a large bolt pattern.

I’d have to check the size of the nuts to be totally sure if I’m running 3/4 or 13/16.

there are two differently sized holes for the lugs on rallye wheels.

I'm pretty sure the later ones with the round center cap have slightly smaller lug holes.

However, I don't have any issue getting a specific, reversible lug socket through mine or an impact socket.

I'd double check that the OP is in fact using 3/4 nuts and not 13/16.

The OEM lug wrench should be able to be used on OEM nuts.
