Is there a difference between a 65 and 66 273 oil pan? I am mocking up my 66 empty 273/235 to my early A K frame as I need to fabricate the transmission crossmember for the 42RH. the front of the oil pan is sitting on the K even with the transmission tail-shaft lowered a bit. I’m using the brick insulators if that makes a difference. Thanks for any insight or suggestions to solve this issue

Is there room for a 42RH?

Both of the oil pans I had were identical. One being a 65 and one a 67. I'm wondering if the motor mounts are correct thickness. I easily had 1/2 an inch clearance from pan to k member. I'm sure a 66 pan would be the same. I did have the Schumacher mounts though.

The steel mounts sre definitely early A - from a 65 Barracuda. I am using the thicker brick mounts, not this thin ones and finally the K is definitely early A. My Mopar buddy who was helping me thinks the oil pan is wrong with this bulge in the front. Maybe my error but since the motor is a 66, I “assumed” the pan was too

I just looked at pics of one of Ulf’s 273s and the difference is clear. In this case the big hammer is not gonna work

Dartman, here is what I found.....
According to 1962 to 1965 moparornocar, the Mopar Performance Chassis book says.....
2463408, for 64 a body, a engine,and,
2463517 for 65-66 a body, a engine, share identical dimensions.
Depth front: 3.75
Depth sump: 7.40
Depth rear: 5.09
Hope this helps.....

Interesting. I didn’t cinch anything down, but my 67 273 seemed to fit fine on my early a k member…honestly, wasn’t looking terribly close, but didn’t notice any issues.

I wonder if the oil pans got mixed up. Can you get any pictures of the pan and where it is hitting the K member?

as far as I know and remember, it’s the same pan that came with the motor when I bought it. That’s not saying it was the correct oil pan. This one has a visible hump at the front which is where the pan and K Frame wants to share the same real estate. Referring to Ulf’s pictures of his 273 pans, they are straight across the front.

Other than the oil pan, my block is empty to keep the weight down

I just had a look at my 66 with a 5.9 pan.

The oil pan overlaps like the first picture of your last post, but it is roughly 3/4" above the K-frame. I use biscuit mounts.

Mine was the same when I had a 273 bolted up.

The '64-6 SB pans (2463517) are slightly different than the '67-up pans (2806393). It's not much, but, I've seen problems with rubbing/hitting requiring a BFH or notching of the K-member to get needed clearance. IIRC the '67-up pan has 394 embossed into it, whereas the '64-6 pans do not have any number stamped into them. At some point, the later pans went to the smooth rubber end seals too whereas the early ones had the rubber tits type that locked into their respective holes in the pan.

Google to the rescue - the pan I have is for a 70-72 A,B, E ,etc small block. When i assemble the engine i will use it to keep it clean until I can find the correct oil pan
