I am purchasing a 2015 vvt 5.7 from a charger with 79k to install in my 68 notchback .
I am retaining the EFI and will use the 545 OD transmission or 727 w GV OD. Not sure about the 545 tunnel surgery . Be simple but $$ with the 727 and GV
Plans
Install a little bigger cam , bigger throttle body
> I was thinking of going Holley for the harness and ecu ?
> Is it worth retaining the VVT ?
Any advice or encouragement is appreciated
I will update thread w pictures as I go .

Pending how big you go with Cam, a vvt limiter or lock will be required. At that rate, I would probably just lock it.

And friendly fyi, the stock TB Is good for gobs of HP.
I have personally ran mpfi engines with 800+hp with 84mm tb's and went all the way up to 110 mm with ZERO change on the dyno.

Everyone thinks about tb size like they do a carburetor. On mpfi, it's just a flapper valve. Fuel is injectors and ecu.

Hope that helps!

Can someone please recommend a thread ?. I do not have a bottomless pocket book , looking to install a vvt into my 68 Cuda for 8K, No Alterkation suspension ect... Looking for a basic install and tips like using jeep headers
I have the vvt hemi and good 545 trans already

Holley is expensive. They are nice for almost infinite tuning. I've had great luck with Hotwire Auto. They can build a harness for your exact combo. Uses unlocked 2010-2011 Ram computer. You can use a diablo or whatever tuner from there on. Just ordered a harness from them two weeks ago. Twelve to thirteen week wait. Not nearly as expensive as Holley.

Until you factor in a Ram ECM and the cost of having it unlocked, and then the tuner.

When you buy fron Hotwire, that is included. You can buy just the harness, but, what's the point? Buy the whole lot. A VVT with 545 trans kit was like 2300 for harness and computer. I know you'll damn well have double that in the Holley stuff. I won't get in a pissing match as to witch is "better". I'm talking purely from a budget standpoint.

I won't get in a "pissing match" with you over which one is better either, I have no experience with either one! From a "budget standpoint" though, Holley shows their kit at $1899.95, as opposed to your quote of $2300 from Hotwire Auto. I'm just pointing out what you said and what Holley shows on their website,
Holley EFI 550-1424 Holley EFI Terminator X Max - 2013+ Gen III HEMI

They've updated their pricing. It used to be that much for just the computer. Then you had to pay for all the wiring separately.

In my opinion I would use the Hotwire harness. Mainly because that is what I have had on my 5.7/545 for 12 years now. The ECM can be gotten from a salvage yard for under $100. I don’t know about later model ECMs (mine is a 2005) and the truck ECMs are not locked. Call Hotwire they will be able to tell you. I guarantee their tech support is better to deal with.

They use 2010 Ram 1500 computers for the VVT stuff. Last one I bought used was 150.

You might have some issues with engine mounts and steering components/oil pans. Planning my build out over the last few months and it’s either a lot of $, or it’s a lot of time and fabrication skills. Which one do you want to spend?
Used to be you could pick up some Schumacher slant six k member 3G hemi mounts but they’re out of business and company that acquired them hasn’t made any new ones in forever and won’t provide specs to make your own.
Cruise through the threads on here just in the first page and you’ll see a lot of what’s been tried and what’s worked. Keep us posted!
